A fresh start—for both of them
As a kid from a shattered family, Kathy Harris couldn’t wait to get out of Harmony Valley. Yet here she is, back home, determined to rebuild her life and regain her young son’s trust. But she doesn’t expect to work miracles—unlike Dylan O’Brien, the enigmatic cowboy rumored to be a healer of misfit horses.
As they work to save an injured colt, Kathy starts to believe in a future with Dylan that she never thought possible. But one of Kathy’s new rules is no more secrets…and Dylan has a big one. One that could destroy the life he and Kathy are building together.
There are some books that make people want to do better, try harder and not give up. I wasn’t expecting to find that in this romance novel. Like many of the other novels written by Melinda Curtis, this one has meaty, messy bits without the eye rolling drama. She isn’t afraid to tackle real life issues. (Alcoholism in this case) Her characters are flawed & realistic. Yet somehow, reading her novels don’t feel like a burden or a psychology assignment.
I really liked Dylan and Kathy. I was drawn into their lives. I loved the chemistry between them. I loved the banter. There are also some great secondary characters. I didn’t realize until I was doing research for this review that this is the third book in the Harmony Valley series. It is completely a stand-alone, but I’m excited to read about some characters who we read about again in this book.
There are a few twists in the book that I didn’t see coming – court room reveal – wowza. I love when the author can bring out unexpected tidbits. Also, there is an epilogue!
Rating: 5 Stars
Content: Kissing, alcoholism and abuse shown in negative light, mild language
