Welcome to my stop on the YA Summer Reads Blog Hop- The Perfect Summer Day
Summer is almost here, and that means beautiful beach days, backyard barbeques, and digging deep into that TBR pile. To help you get in the mood, young adult authors Janet Gurtler, Jennifer Salvato Doktorski, and Juliana Stone share their recipe for a perfect summer day, you know, for the ones you can’t spend poolside with your favorite book.
Janet Gurtler (The Truth About Us): I love being out on the boat with my family, and I’m lucky enough that we have a cabin and a boat in the Shuswap in British Columbia. That’s my favorite-cruising on the boat, the wind in my hair, the sun blasting, watching kids doing watersports, jumping in the lake when it gets unbearably hot. I love everything about being on the boat. And then, to polish off my great day, a delicious BBQ feast and a great book to snuggle up to on the couch. Perfection.
Jennifer Salvato Doktorski (The Summer After You and Me): For me, the perfect summer day begins with a run on the boardwalk or along the bay at the Jersey Shore. After that, breakfast (hopefully one involving bacon and lots of coffee) at the Bayside Café with my family. After that, I pack lunches and load the Wonder Wheeler and walk up to the beach where I can easily spend the whole day reading a book and watching my daughter, niece, and nephew ride their Boogie Board. I love to stay until the sun starts to go down and the air gets chilly. There’s nothing better than putting a sweatshirt on over a bathing suit and suntan skin. Fish tacos, chips and guac, red wine, are the perfect ending to a perfect summer day.
Juliana Stone (Some Kind of Normal): To me the perfect day is one spent with girlfriends by the pool with our favorite tunes on the radio, cold drinks and lots of munchies.
