About the Author:
Jeanette Miller was born in northern California but spent most of her childhood in Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica, where her father worked. She cherishes her experiences of living in Latin America. In her teenage years, she dreamed of becoming a teacher and a published author. Jeanette attended Brigham Young University, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. After graduating, she taught third grade for four years in the Spanish Immersion program. There, she enjoyed writing and directing plays for her students.
As a young mother, Jeanette started writing in moments snatched between changing diapers and making peanut butter sandwiches—or whenever her nose wasn’t in a book. She loves all things Jane Austen and Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre. When Jeanette isn’t reading a novel in this genre, she’s watching their movie equivalents. She also loves scapbooking, designing jewelry, and eating chocolate. She would love to travel all over the world someday. Jeanette and her husband, Michael, have six children. They live in Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Author Interview

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Definitely the past! Oh my goodness, can you imagine walking through Jane Austen’s world? Or watching Moses part the Red Sea–for reals? There are so many things I’d want to experience in the past!
If you were a superhero what would your name be?
Super-Psycho Survival Mom!
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
The power to heal broken hearts.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Ben and Jerry’s Chubby Hubby, New York Super Fudge Chunk, Peanut Butter Cup…dare I continue?
One food you would never eat?
Balut. My daughter, a recently returned missionary from the Philippines, thinks it’s delicious. Bleck.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?

I have a wonderful Christmas romance I’m excited about that’s almost finished. I also have a novel in the works about a young woman who is a travel organizer trying to win a prestigious travel award–if she can just outsmart her handsome rival.
What was your favorite book when you were a teen?
Flower of the Winds by Dorothy Keddington. I lived for every book she wrote.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?

Yes! Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold.” I would have loved to use the lyrics in my book! It’s perfect for the story, and for the setting in Gold Country.

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?

Never give up! Keep writing. Have the courage to submit your manuscript, but also the courage to take negative feedback to help you improve your work.
What is your dream cast for your book?
Henry Cavill and Blake Lively

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?

I always wanted to be a teacher. I’d force my younger brothers to play school with me and call me “Miss Lemon” (poor things).

If you were a bird, which one would you be?

I’d have to be a hummingbird. I’m always flitting around from one thing to the next and never seem to finish what I started. Focused and on task? Never. Easily distracted? Eternally.

You have won one million dollars what is the first thing that you would buy?

A trip through Europe! No question about it. I can’t begin to describe my longing (but my husband has heard all about it…).

Do you prefer to write in silence or with music?

I prefer writing with beautiful instrumental or romantic music.

Do you have any weird or interesting rituals you do to get into writing mode or while you’re writing.

Okay, this is soooooo embarrassing. Sometimes I go to YouTube and watch movie montages done to songs like “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer. I’m serious.

Happiest moments in your life so far.

The birth of each of my children. Seeing my daughter serve so faithfully on her mission in the Philippines.

What words or expression do you overuse?

“Awesome.” Ugh… I’ve got to find another expression!
What is on your “keeper shelf” of books?
My collections include novels written by Dorothy Keddington, Patricia Veryan, Lynn Kurland and Deeanne Gist. And then there’s Charlotte Brontë‘s Jane Eyre, of course!

What drew you to writing this genre?

It’s my favorite genre to read!
Describe your book in 5 words.
Deeply romantic. Heartfelt. Uplifting. Fun.

If you were not a writer, what would you like to do?

I’d want to be a professional group travel organizer. I so wish! I’d dream up all kinds of romantic stories taking place wherever I went.
