Picture Book Review: I Wish I Were a Lion by Dan Jackson

I wish I were a lionTitle: I Wish I Were A Lion

Author: Dan Jackson

Released: July 20, 2014

Book Summary:

This is Bross. Bross is a FOX. He is 7 years old.
But Bross doesn’t want to be a FOX . He would prefer to be a LION.
He wants to have all the advantages that LION have.
So, let’s join him on his dream.

This book contains photographs of lions with facts about lions in text underneath each picture. The facts are interesting but this book needs an editor.

There are some inconsistencies in the text with the way thing are worded. The book started with “I would be the King of the Jungle”. Then the author switched to starting the next page with “I will be like this”. And then most of the rest of the book started with sentences that began with I could. “I could boast about myself”. It would have been better if the author had stuck to starting the sentences the same way.

Also there are quite a few sentences that just sound off.

“I could enjoy with my lovely cubs”. Enjoy what?

“Lions can stay four days without drinking.” Interesting fact but the word “stay” is probably not the best choice for this sentence.

The summary makes you think you will see Bross the fox in the book but he only appears on the cover.

There is potential here but this book lacks the polish needed to make it a great book.
