Knife's EdgeThe Knife’s Edge by Matthew Wolf

When legends come to life the world trembles from a single name. Ronin. Once-heroes from a different age, they wield elemental powers… wind, water, fire, stone, forest, sun, moon, flesh, and metal.

At the same time, a young man discovers his best friend with a sword in her stomach, and dark wings sprouting from her back. Guards rush onto the scene, accuse him of the act, and he is forced to flee. In a new world without his memories, Gray must find his way amid legends and darkness, as he wrestles with an elemental power inside himself.

A power all too similar to the infamous Ronin…

Praise for The Knife’s Edge

“A truly engaging story!” – Tracy Hickman, New York Times Bestselling Author and creator of the Dragonlance Series
“Amazing, I am so happy when I find books that keep me up all night. This is a tome of light, among darkness. Never a boring page, action packed and loved the story. Can’t wait for the second book. And I want to know more about all the characters.” – Tor-Ole Halverson
“This book has everything any epic fantasy lover is looking for in a book, mesmerizing characters, fantastical creatures, sword fights, magic, mystery and even comedy. For some the beginning of the book might seem to be slow, but the further you read, it gets better on each page. Matthew Wolf does an excellent job describing every scene, every character, every feeling and the consequences the character take to submerge you into this wonderful world he has created. I just can’t wait for book 2 to continue with this epic saga that I just fell in love with!” – Dominique

Character interview:

Gray, our seventeen-year-old protagonist who’s lost his memory… Answering the questions after the end of book one.

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Travel to the past?  Wouldn’t that be convenient… To discover my memories, I’d chose the former, but I am curious what the future holds.
If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
Mura, of course, but he’d make me cook it.  Ayva, and Darius are the next obvious answers if Ayva doesn’t berate me for every little thing, and Darius doesn’t make a fool of himself; unfortunately, both are all too likely, but I’ll gladly accept it for the company of truly good friends.  Balder because I can’t find another person… and because there’s not a funnier person this side of Death’s Gates.  Lastly?  Faye. Why?  I… I can’t tell you.
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
Friends, food, and a way off.  Isn’t that what everyone would answer?
What is one book everyone should read?
Tales of the Ronin.  The stories are… Well, let’s just say don’t believe everything you read.  But there’s something about the Ronin and legend Kail… I can’t help but feel pulled to his stories and I know that’s strange, but I feel as if there’s something missing.  Was he really evil?  I know the world is wrong, that even time has forgotten the true story of the Ronin and their supposed betrayal, but still the mystery of the Ronin is something that pulls at my heart at all times.
If you were a superhero what would your name be?
That’s a little amusing.  I’m not sure what “super” hero means.  But… can I sound arrogant/strange and say what we’re all thinking…? Kail.  I would be, and will be Kail.

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Again, this “super” bit is a tad confusing… but I can’t help but laugh and answer the obvious: wind.  After all, it’s in my blood.
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
What’s ice cream?
If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
Don’t… ask… me that.  Ever.  The death of Kail is still too close for me to bear… or understand for that matter.
One food you would never eat?
Most foods, really.  I can’t remember my past.
Pet Peeves?
Peeves… of my pet?  I’ve never had a pet, or if I had, it’s my former self and I couldn’t tell you.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
My book? I haven’t written anything, but I do have this book that Mura gave me.  I would love to read it but the language is something I cannot yet decipher.  It’s about the Ronin, real tales of their deeds, or at least that’s my guess.  If I could read a tale about my adventures though? At this point it’d be hard to believe–I can hardly imagine that all that’s happened is real life and not a dream, or a nightmare.

Hidden talent?

Heh, wind again.
Favorite Food?
Mistress Hitomi made this dish with glazed duck back in the Shining City and it was mouth watering.  I think about it almost too often, and of course about her and Mura.
Nickname?
It’s kind of hard to shorten “Gray”, isn’t it?
What’s your favorite word?
Asunder.  I know that sounds kind of heavy, but it feel strong.
Black or White?
White.
Night owl, or early bird?
Night owl.
Coke or Pepsi?
What?
