Sixteen-year-old Zadie’s first mistake was telling the boy she liked she could bring her dead sister back to life. Her second mistake was actually doing it.
When Zadie accidentally messes with the Reaper’s Rite that should have claimed her sister Mara, things go horribly wrong. Mara isn’t the same anymore—Zadie isn’t even sure she’s completely human, and to top it off, a Reaper is determined to collect Mara’s soul no matter what. Now Zadie must figure out how to defeat her sister’s Reaper, or let Mara die … this time for good.
Author Dorothy Dreyer
I’m a Philippine-born American living in Germany with my husband and two teens.
I write young adult books that usually have some element of magic or the supernatural in them. I also like to read those kinds of books. Aside from reading, I like movies, chocolate, take-out, coffee, traveling, and having fun with my friends and family. I’ve also been known to make a pretty sweet cupcake.
I tend to sing sometimes, too, so keep me away from your Karaoke bars.
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I’m in the revision process for book two in the Reaper’s Rite series, and I’m working on the first draft of another book.
What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Read, read, read! Get to know what’s out there in your genre. And write whenever you can.
How did you know you should become an author?
The voices in my head told me I have to. 😉
I make musical parody videos.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Dory … yes, like the fish from Finding Nemo. I’m almost that forgetful, so it fits.
Do you prefer to write in silence or with music?
I like to plot to music but write in silence.
How do you go about revising/editing?
I like to read all my editor’s notes first, all the way through. Then I walk away and let it all sink in. I even sleep on it, so the ideas have time to saturate. Then I tackle the project one page at a time.
Do you write as you go or do you have the book all planned out from page 1?
I plot, for sure. I don’t have every single scene planned out, but I pretty much know how it starts, most of the challenges in the middle, and how it ends.
