Genre: Paranormal Mystery
When Beth LaMonte rents a
cottage on the coast of Maine, she wishes only to withdraw and paint. A
mysterious ball of light disturbs her peace and leads her to a secret
beach where she finds the diary of a girl who disappeared in 1975. Now
Beth is on a mission, not only to bury her own past, but to put to rest
the spirit of Firefly Beach.
Beth moves to Virgina Point Cove to leave behind a divorce and a troubled life. She leaves behind her job of going over numbers all day in hopes of starting a new life filled with painting and the beach.
What she gets is a meeting with a firefly that wants her to solve a 36 year old mystery of the disappearance of a young girl named Katherine. Beth becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to Katherine, so much so that her new life is put on hold because of it.
A few of the characters you will meet in this book are Beth’s nasty landlord (by nasty I mean hateful and unhappy), who happens to be Katherine’s father. A jeweler who seems a little closed off and weird at first, and a woman who owns a bed & breakfast that knows everything about everyone in Virgina Point Cove.
The first part of this book was a little slow for me, but it picks up and I couldn’t put it down after that. I had to know what happened to Katherine, although I had a pretty good idea a little over half way through the book. There are some paranormal elements in this book, but there are no ghost flying around and nothing that is farfetched or unbelievable.
In my opinion anytime a book can get a tear out of me, it is a pretty good one! In order for me to like a story I have to care about the characters, and I cared about the characters in this book! Wonderfully written!
