Introducing Rain Jeys – Book Reviewer

I decided to take on some associate reviewers to help me review on this site. Their reviews will be appearing on this blog as they submit them to me and I find time to approve them and get them posted. Once 3 reviews have been posted I will be introducing you to them.

Each reviewer I am adding will have slightly different tastes in the types of books they enjoy reading and the content level they are comfortable reading.

Rain Jeys is the first reviewer who has had 3 reviews posted on my site so now it’s my turn to tell you more about her.

Here is what Rain has to say about content in books.

I think that sex and swearing are typical parts of teenage life, for better or worse, and to pretend that isn’t the case is not being realistic. So swearing and mentioning of sex is fine in YA, and if it’s not explicit and actually matters to the plot, innuendo, sexual tension and even vaguely described non-explicit semi-off-page sex is fine. Especially if the couple is very convincing and you can root for them.

However, if sex is just thrown in seemingly for shock value or is casual (even in adult titles – casual sex really bothers me and is a huge reason I avoid adult titles) then that can severely impact my rating, though I will state so in the review. Three-way-relationships such as in Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr get a huge NO from me.

If the character is swearing every paragraph and it seems forced and ridiculous, I will down-rate for that too. Swearing that feels natural to the character(s) and situation is fine.

Rain enjoys reading YA fantasy, YA paranormal, YA dystopian & MG fantasy book.
