Twenty-six-year-old Katie Macauley has placed all her hope in Hope Springs, a small town in the 1870 Wyoming Territory. But if she wants to return home to Ireland to make amends with her estranged family, she’ll need to convince the influential Joseph Archer to hold true to his word and keep her on his payroll as his housekeeper despite her Irish roots. The town is caught in an ongoing feud between the Irish and the “Reds” the frontiersmen who would rather see all the Irish run out of town and the Irish immigrants who are fighting to make a home for themselves in the New World. When Joseph agrees to keep Katie on as his housekeeper, the feud erupts anew, and Katie becomes the reluctant figurehead for the Irish townsfolk. As the violence escalates throughout the town, Katie must choose between the two men who have been vying for her love though only one might be able to restore hope to her heart.
I am so pleased with Shadow Mountain’s A Proper Romance line of books. Edenbrooke and Blackmoore were both phenomenal so I was excited to see that they had an offering from Sarah M. Eden. Of course I jumped at the chance to review this one.
Longing for Home is quite simply a great book I thoroughly enjoyed and can recommend to any and everyone who enjoys clean romance and historical fiction. I went into this book knowing just two things… there was a love triangle and there would be a sequel. I think knowing that helped me to appreciate this book for what it was.
Love Triangle – I’ve gotten quite tired of love triangles but didn’t mind this one. There was one man I was obviously rooting for but I liked the other man for his opposite yet still endearing qualities. Both were good men and although I agree with the choice made I still hope the 2nd man find his own measure of happiness because he deserves it.
Sequel – I’m tired of books with sequels. I was actually disappointed when I heard there would be a sequel to this one. Thankfully this book did not have a cliffhanger ending. It wrapped up quite nicely but the story is not over. There is much that hasn’t been resolved so I am now eagerly awaiting the sequel which comes out in the spring. So hooray for a sequel in this case because I am longing to return to Hope Springs.
Overall this is a fabulous book. Great characters, story line and setting combined with Sarah’s knack for weaving an incredible story make this a book I highly recommend.
