Heather Ostler grew up near the mountains with a rambunctiously entertaining family. She majored in English at Utah Valley University and soon began composing stories about masquerades, water nymphs, and shapeshifters. She and her husband, Kellen, reside in Highland, Utah, with two remarkably pleasant pugs.

Pretty Little Liars. The books and the show.
What is your favorite scene in the book?
I love when Caleb finally tells Julia the life changing secret he’s been holding in for months.
Do you write as you go or do you have the book all planned out from page 1?
I’ll have an outline before I start, but I let sparks of inspiration happen along the way.
How do you come up with the characters names/personalities?
I’m constantly thinking of new characters, and I have to hurry and write about them before I forget. Sometimes I get ideas in the strangest places, driving, cooking, or even in dreams.
Most embarrassing moment?
I met my husband when I was sixteen, and I was still really shy around boys. He called to ask me out on a date, and I agreed. When he asked for my address to pick me up, I became so nervous that I forgot it! I quickly told him that I couldn’t remember because we had just moved. When he came to pick me up, my sister told him that we moved 5 years earlier and that it didn’t make sense. He was sweet enough to ignore how embarrassed I was, and even asked me out again. Now we’ve been married for four years and we still laugh about it all time.
