Back Up Your Blog!!

Just a quick reminder to be sure you have backed up your blog. One of my long-time blogging friends woke up to the dreaded message that blogger had deleted her blog.

I’m actually shocked that blogger removed My Devotional Thoughts.  Ruth’s blog was full of original content and will hopefully be restored soon.

There are lots of sites online that easily explain how to do it.  It is so simple to do in blogger.

Go to your blogger dashboard
Click on Settings
Click on Other
Click on Export Blog
Click Download Blog

If you are in wordpress just log into your dashboard.  Click tools and then export.  Your hosting company will likely have a back up option as well.

A word of warning…  Be sure your blog has plenty of original content.  If you mainly repost cover reveals, book blasts, etc. your blogger blog is more likely to be deleted.

  1. Excellent reminder! I’ve never done it before (eep) so I’m setting an email reminder to do it this weekend. Thank you and I hope your friend gets her blog back soon.

  2. Thanks so much for informing us! I just downloaded my blog that sucks what happened to Ruth!

  3. Michele Luker says:

Why would they even do that? I don’t understand

  4. Emily D says:

I noticed I kept getting an Error 404 when I tried to go to her blog this morning. I feel so bad for her. I hope she did a backup recently.

  5. It seems that almost every blogger blog is going to pulled at least once in its lifetime. Both of mine were pulled – and my one is pictures of my goats! They investigate and they restore. It’s disturbing and unsettling but they come back intact.

  6. Scary! Thanks for the tip!

  7. Wow, thanks for the advice. I’ve never thought of backing up my blog.

  8. i really need to think about doing more often, thanks for the reminders.
i really don’t see why they did that to Ruth, i love her blog and i never saw something that could make then do that

  9. Okay, this comes as a perfect time for me, because I’m at a blogger crux anyway. I just posted on it here: http://www.fortheloveofya.blogspot.com/2013/05/bye-bye-blogger.html

I would be depressed for the rest of my life if I woke up and my blog was deleted, so I’m taking your advice.

Also, did you move from blogger to WordPress by chance? Because I would love some advice on my blog (post above) about doing the same. I’m really nervous about it, but I feel like it’s time to make my blog better.

    Thanks for the reminder!

  10. Oh no!! Poor Ruth! Hopefully they can restore it for her. That’s brutal! I got hacked one time and that was a wake-up call to do regular back-ups!

  11. I just backed it up! Thanks so much for the reminder!! 🙂

  12. Thanks for the reminder! I back mine up every time I have an update (new version of WP, plugin updates, etc.) Usually a couple times a week with all the plugins I use! 🙂

  13. I had no idea. THANK YOU for this warning!

  14. Thank you for sharing, I didn’t know how to do this 🙂

  15. OMG! No wonder I haven’t been seeing any post lately. Hope it gets fixed soon.

  16. Just backed up all eleven of my blogs on Blogger and I’m headed over to WordPress to do that one. Thanks for the reminder. I’ve been putting it off for too long!

  17. Thanks so much for the info, I keep seeing people talking about backing up their blogs but I didn’t know how to do it!

  18. My site CrossroadReviews.com has been deleted for just over two months and I as well as Brooke are still clicking that restore thing. I still hope to see it back. But it really kills everything. And backing up your site only backs up the template. It doesn’t back up any of the posts. Which suck. I have since started a new site the Witchy contessa. And have also made a private back up that is not published. This really sucks and blogger needs to get on the ball. The cover contessa was deleted for about two months and came back. But so far I can’t say the same for other sites.

OMG I know!! I was trying to get into My Devotional Thoughts last night and it just came up as an error. Gosh I hope it gets back soon.

    Thanks for the tips!

  20. Kathy you are on WordPress can you post something about creating a WordPress site? I want to switch my over.

  21. Thanks for the advice and how to – I didn’t realise it was so simple so had put it off, but am now happy in the knowledge that it is saved just in case.

  22. Thanks for sharing the how to. I didn’t realise how easy it was so have been putting it off, but now am happy in the knowledge that it is saved just in case.

  23. Wow, that’s scary! If they’ll delete My Devotional Thoughts, makes me think they could very well do the same thing to mine. Thanks for the info on how to back up a blog. I’ll be doing mine today, for sure.

  24. Oh gosh! Thanks for this! I’m going to do that now!
