What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

We have a professional deli ice cream maker and make our own flavors. My favorite is Irish Cream Chip. It has bitter sweet chocolate chip pieces in it. Sooo good!

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?

I have completed five books in the Sage Seed Chronicles Series. Book three: The Unraveling is now out. The Reweaving (book 4) is scheduled out in the summer of 2013. The Lost which is the fifth book will be out late in the year or early 2014. There will be a book six in the series and I am currently working on an unrelated book for release sometime next year.

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?

My favorite book in middle school was Mara, Daughter of the Nile by Eloise McGraw. Years later my sister-in-law gave me a hardbound edition. I loved that book.

Who are your favorite authors of all time?

I loved Isaac Asimov, James Michener, John Grisham, Anne McCaffrey and Patricia McKillip

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?

No characters are built off of me…but there are some elements of Erin in book three that I can closely relate to.

Hidden talent?

I have designed Counted Cross Stitch, currently make exotic wood bracelets and work as a home interior design consultant. I also am a wildlife artist and each book has some of my art inside.

If you were a bird, which one would you be?

This is tough as I LOVE raptors. I would enjoy being an owl at night. My favorite is the Saw-whet. If I were a day bird I would like to be a Harris Hawk.

Give us a glimpse into a typical day in your day starting when you wake up till you lie down again.

I get up at 7:30, fix breakfast and go to work at our furniture wood-shop. The day varies. I could be breaking down pieces, stripping, staining or assisting the building of custom pieces. We could leave the shop to pick up or deliver. Between tasks I am writing. Lunch is between 12 and 1 and back to work. Again, between tasks I write. I quit work around 7:15 to fix dinner and after dishes are done I write or work on marketing. I usually shut down around 9:30-10. This is the schedule Monday through Saturday. Sunday I have more time to write and do marketing for my work.

Favorite quote from a movie?

There are speeches that I love in movies like “The Contender” and “Protocol” to name a few… but a quote is usually short so I would have to go with: “Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

Do you prefer to write in silence or with music?

I do better in silence.

Pets? – childhood or adult

I’ve had one pet. It was when I was a teen and it was a de-scented skunk.

Favorite place you’ve been and/or would like to go

There isn’t just one. There are a few places I would like to see: Antelope Canyon, sea life in a coral reef, Machu Picchu, Scotland and Ireland.

What drew you to writing this genre?

I could create my own world.

Which scene or characters were the most difficult for you to write and why?

I have trouble writing the ugly, cruel -inhumanity to man scenes. They make me feel dirty and sick.

Do you write as you go or do you have the book all planned out from page 1?

Mostly I write as I go but there is some planning involved.

How do you juggle writing & family life?

See the schedule question above. I always have written in spurts as I can grab time. I don’t know any other way to write.

Do your friends or enemies ever find themselves in your books?

You bet! I have fun with that. We all know wonderful, interesting characteristics in people just as we know people we wish we didn’t ever have to associate with. All are experiences that I draw upon.

Thank you for allowing me to share with you. I really appreciate it.

A virulent disease sweeps through the Sawblen Province. The source is unknown. As hundreds fall victim, the healers race to contain it and find a cure before it engulfs the realm, but a would-be healer complicates the situation by concocting dangerous drugs.

While the officials are distracted, a counterfeiter takes advantage of the events. Credentials and money are faked, putting several lives in peril and resulting in deaths.

The Great One’s council and sage population hurry to track down the sources of the trouble and right the multiple crises before anyone else falls prey to the events. Rare natives of the planet have important information to impart if the sages can decipher their cryptic message.

About the Author: Holly Barbo’s world is shaped by her love of her family, the beauty of the natural world in Northwest Washington State and an irrepressible creative drive.

Living where the scenery is incredible with a rich abundance of wildlife “is so special and soothing that it feels like a quiet kind of magic,” according to Barbo. She is drawn to creating stories where there is just a bit of something unworldly, perhaps it is magic or psychic skills. Her stories are mostly in non-urban settings and usually have some focus on nature, building a discordant drama inside the peaceful frame.
