Interview
If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be?
Chocolate! It’s my biggest weakness. I really can’t say no to chocolate and sometimes go out of my way to get some. Especially praline… mmmm… In fact, I might go search through the cupboards for some chocolate right now… the other questions can wait, right?

What do you do in your free time?
Free time? What is this mythical thing? I spend time with my husband and daughter, reading books, going for walks, watching TV together–you know, general family things. I also make time at least once a week for table top roleplaying and during that time I knit (to keep my hands are occupied so I don’t eat chocolate).

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I’m working on a prequel to Trinity at the moment, which focuses on why the trinity of gods was destroyed. It’s still in the first draft stages, so is quite a way off seeing the light of day!

I’m currently editing an urban fantasy novel, titled Reaper’s Rhythm, about a teenager whose world is blown apart when her sister dies. I’m hoping to get that released within the next few months.

As if that wasn’t enough, I’m also part way through the first draft of a follow up to Reaper’s Rhythm and I’m plotting a mid-grade fantasy novel. See what I mean about free time being a mythical thing?

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Can I cheat here and have two rewarding experiences?

Firstly, anytime I get a review. Just knowing that people have enjoyed reading Trinity enough to share their views with other readers is amazing.

Secondly, being described as an “indie inspiration” by the lovely Leigh Ann Kopans. That made me smile all day!

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
The Chronicles of Prydain series by Lloyd Alexander, hands down. I loved his retelling of Celtic mythology and the vividness of the characters. The interplay between Taran and Eilonwy was always fun to read, especially as they gradually grew closer together.

Favorite Food?
Have I mentioned chocolate yet? Actually, there is something I like even more than chocolate–yes, it is possible. Chicken satay. But not just any chicken satay… I’d travel half way round the world (if I could afford to) for chicken satay from the hawker stalls in Malaysia. Absolutely gorgeous.

PC or Mac?
Mac, which is completely my dad’s fault. He switched to Macs when I was in high school and I’ve been a convert ever since (much to my husband’s annoyance).

Beach or Pool?
Pool. I hate the way that sand sticks to everything. Plus salt water – yuck!

Cats or Dog?
Cats. Dogs are far too needy.

Coke or Pepsi?
Coke. I have a lot of friends who claim there’s no difference between the two, but there really is.

Print or Ebook?
Ebook for portability, but if I really love a book I’ll buy the paperback too. You can’t beat the smell of a paperback, or the feel of turning the pages.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
To quote one of my reviewers: If you want a book about three teens coming to terms with sins of the fathers, forgiveness, and redemption, [Trinity] is it.

Trinity

‘Trinity’, released July 2012, is Clare Davidson’s debut novel. It is an epic fantasy, targeted at young adult readers, with strong crossover appeal into the adult market.

Kiana longs to walk through a forest and feel grass between her toes. But she is the living embodiment of a goddess and has enemies who wish to murder her. Her death will curse the whole of Gettryne. Locked away for protection, she dreams of freedom.

Her wish comes true in the worst possible way, when her home and defenders are destroyed.
Along with an inexperienced guard and a hunted outcast, Kiana flees the ravages of battle to search for a solution to the madness that has gripped Gettryne for a thousand years. Pursued by the vicious and unrelenting Wolves, their journey will take them far beyond their limits, to a secret that will shake the world.
