Her latest book is the mystery/women’s fiction, Saving Grace.

Interview
If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
I would go back to the past and relive every treasured moment I’ve had with my husband over and over and over.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Banana Pudding by Blue Bell, the little creamery in our favorite town of Brenham, TX

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
Harper Lee, author to To Kill a Mockingbird

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Eggs Benedict

Night owl, or early bird?
Whooo, Whooooooo.

Skittles or M&Ms?
M&M’s, peanut version, please.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
The second book in the Katie & Annalise series is coming out in August of 2013. It’s called Leaving Annalise. I am at work on the third book in the series now, too.

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
I had so many! My first memory of a one favorite book is Black Beauty, followed by Heidi and then Cheaper by the Dozen. Where the Red Fern Grows. Are You There God It’s Me Margaret. I read voraciously.

If you could be one of the Greek Gods, which would it be and why?
I think my husband would say I was Athena, the Goddess of War. I’ve been told I’m pretty intimidating, even though I think I’m pretty sweet and cuddly. I would much rather be Venus.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
Oh, I soooo wanted to be either a veterinarian or a marine biologist. Unfortunately, it turns out I am prone to violent sea sickness, and I have an extremely sensitive nose. The bad smells that come with “biology” in all of its forms do me in. But I love animals. We have had as many as six dogs and three cats at one, and we’ve had pigs, goats, horses, fish, guinea pigs, rabbits, you name it!

Favorite Food?
Just one? No, I can’t do just one. Ribeye steak, BBQ ribs and fried chicken. I’m from Texas, y’all!

What was your favorite children’s book?
I loved reading to my children, although my son was reading Harry Potter aloud TO ME by the time he was four. My favorites were Love You Forever and Guess How Much I Love You? I loved Eric Carle books, like The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Blueberries for Sal. If you give a mouse a cookie. Rainbow Fish. Where the Wild Things Are. But Dr. Seuss books drove me mad. My kids learned to read with the “Bob” books, and they drove me a little crazy, too. Wait, I’m sounding a little persnickety…

Nickname?
Pamelot

If you were a bird, which one would you be?
A female cardinal. My husband loves cardinals, and if I gave any other answer, it would break his heart.

You have won one million dollars what is the first thing that you would buy?
A really sweet travel trailer and truck to drive around the Americas as we explored every nook and cranny by foot and bicycle.

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
The Energizer Bunny Strikes Back

What’s your favorite season/weather?
Oh, the fall. The end of Texas heat, the first injection of cool air into the steam, the changing of the leaves, the start of a new school year for our kids (who are mostly grown now except for the youngest two in high school), football. The buildup through Halloween, and on to Thanksgiving. The fall.

What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you’d be embarrassed to admit?
I mostly watch Netflix and sports. I don’t watch any shows that embarrass me, per se, but I am known to devour an entire multi-year series in a few weeks when my husband travels abroad or long stretches. My last immersion was Bones. Loved it.

Favorite places to travel?
National and state parks are my favorites, since I love the wonders of nature as seen by foot. However, I would love to go on a safari, to travel across Canada by train in the dead of winter, to see the Galapagos islands, and take an adventure cruise to Alaska.

Favorite music?
Dixie Chicks, No Doubt, Brad Paisley, Journey

Saving Grace

If you’re at all inclined to be swept away to the islands to fall in love with a rainforest jumbie house and a Texas attorney who is as much a danger to herself as the island bad guys, then dive headfirst with Katie Connell into Saving Grace.

Katie escapes professional humiliation, a broken heart, and her Bloody Mary-habit when she runs to the island of St. Marcos to investigate the suspicious deaths of her parents. But she trades one set of problems for another when she is bewitched by the voodoo spirit Annalise in an abandoned rainforest house and, as worlds collide, finds herself reluctantly donning her lawyer clothes again to defend her new friend Ava, who is accused of stabbing her very married Senator-boyfriend.
