Welcome to Author Victoria Scott
I’m a YA writer with a die-hard affection for dark and humorous books. My workis represented by the fabulous Laurie McLean of Larsen-Pomada literary agency. I have a master’s degree in marketing, and am a member of the Writers’ League of Texas and Teen Shiver.
My first YA book, THE COLLECTOR, will be published by Entangled Teen, April 2013. It is the first book in a trilogy. My second YA series will begin with THE BRIMSTONE BLEED and is being published by Scholastic in spring 2014.
I currently live in Dallas with my husband, Ryan.
If you could invite 5 people to dinner, who would you choose?
Ooh, good question. I’d pick JK Rowling and Suzanne Collins to discuss writing with, the chef from my favorite Greek restaurant to add yummy food, and Ryan Gosling and Johnny Depp to fight over my love.
What is one book everyone should read?
BIRD BY BIRD by Anne Lamott. It’s a great book on writing and on life in general.
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough all the way!
What was your favorite book when you were a teen?
Anything by Christopher Pike and RL Stine. I liked the creepy stuff.
What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever received?
I don’t remember who said it, but an author in a writing magazine said, “Breaking into writing is terribly hard. Be the one.” I’ll never forget that “Be the one” line.
Hummus with lots of oil and garlic with warm pita bread. Give it all to me.
How do you react to a bad review?
Immediately believe it’s true and that I suck at all things. I’m working on thickening my skin.
What do you do with your free time?
Study interior design, garden, volunteer, hang out with friends / family, and kiss my husband.
What is your favorite season?
Fall. Even though raking makes me want to rip my hair out, there’s something so beautiful about leaves changing colors and pumpkins sitting on porches. Love it!
In your wildest dreams, which author would you want to co-author a book with?
Lauren Destefano. We don’t have similar writing styles, but she’s so hilarious on Twitter that I’d love to co-author a romantic comedy or some jazz. That girl is Funny.
He makes good girls…bad.
Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple: weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.
Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn’t want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:
Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days.
Dante doesn’t know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried.
