Welcome to Author Rachel McClellan
Rachel McClellan was born and raised in Idaho, a place secretly known for its supernatural creatures. When she’s not in her writing lair, she’s partying with her husband and four crazy, yet lovable, children. Rachel’s love for storytelling began as a child when the moon first possessed the night. For when the lights went out, her imagination painted a whole new world. And what a scary world it was…
Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Llona’s them song would be “Fight Inside” by Red and Christian’s would be “I will Follow You Into the Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie.
What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Their are two writing motto’s I live by. 1. When in doubt, cut it out. This means that if there is a particular sentence or paragraph giving you grief and you’re spending too much time on it, cut it. 2. Never begin a novel without knowing the ending. I can’t tell you how many stories I have that are half finished. Once I discovered this trick, I easily finish novels and I don’t get writers block. Knowing the end goal keeps me focused.
If you could choose only one time period and place to live, when and where would you live and why?
Since watching Downton Abbey, I’d love to live in that time period. But I’d want to be rich. I don’t think it would be fun if you didn’t have money…unless you married the hot, spirited Irish chauffeur. 🙂
What do you do in your free time?
Before kids, I loved to snowboard and play all kinds of sports. After kids, I still like playing sports like racquetball and volleyball, but snowboarding requires all day babysitting and lift tickets are expensive enough!
If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
“Is that all you got?”
What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you’d be embarrassed to admit?
I love watching Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Being Human, The Walking Dead. But I’m not embarrassed to say it. Oh, wait. I have one. I like to watch America’s Next Top Model. You know what would be a great show? To mix The Walking Dead and ANTM. Now that would be entertainment!
If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Robert Louis Stevenson, Sherlock Holmes and Will Ferrell. Someone’s sure to die in this crowd, but Holmes will solve it and Ferrell will make everyone laugh about it.
What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
I love it when my husband makes eggnog and toast.
How long do you generally let a story idea ‘marinate’ in your brain before you start the book?
I usually have at least three ideas simmering at any given moment, but like I mentioned before, I won’t start one until the ending comes to me.
Do you prefer to write in silence or with music?
Must. Have. Music. I write everything to music. I find it makes the whole process much easier.
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
In March I have a humorous memoir titled CONFESSIONS OF A CEREAL MOTHER coming out. And I just finished a YA novel titled UNLEASHED. It’s a twist on the Jekyll and Hyde story line. Currently I’m working on the third Fractured Light book, FRACTURED TRUTH.
Llona will do whatever it takes to protect her new found friends and home, but the dark plot threatening Lucent Academy, a school that’s supposed to be a safe place for Auras, may be too powerful for even Llona to defeat. This fast-paced tale of love, loyalty, and overcoming the darkness will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page!
