Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war.

This is not that world.

Art student and monster’s apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is—and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it.

In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she’ll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life.

While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope.

But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?

I am so taken with this series.  It’s amazing!

I started reading Days of Blood and Starlight and realized I had forgotten way too much of what happened in The Daughter of Smoke and Bone.  I was just going to skim read it again before continuing with this second book in the series but found myself drawn back into the book and I read every word of The Daughter of Smoke and Bone before going back to Days of Blood and Starlight.

So original, so many twists and turns you never know what is coming next.  I came to adore some of the side characters in this especially Zuzana.  Yes there was another cliffhanger ending but it was a satisfying one for me. There is good reason this has such high ratings on both amazon and goodreads.  Everything about it is phenomenal.

As far as content there is language, lots of violence, attempted rape, sexual innuendo and talk, etc.  I would not let my teenager read this one.  I think it is much more of a mature YA/New Adult/Adult as far as the content.

Rating: 5 Stars

Content: Sexual innuendo, language & violence. Everything seems to be stepped up a notch from the first book… especially the violence.
