1. If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
I would definitely go back in time. I’m working on a book now in which a young girl travels back to 1917 through a magic mirror and meets the perfect boy.

2. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
I would want a camping lantern, my computer, and a solar battery to power them.

3. If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
I would like to meet Helen Keller. When I was ten, I read her autobiography and learned the sign language alphabet. I was obsessed.

4. Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
It’s a paranormal, mystery-packed love story with a really cute love interest.

5. Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
My next book, SCREWED, is coming out in May 2013. Grace, honor student and good girl, thinks the hottest guy in school might be falling in love with her. But what she thought was true love turned out to be nothing more than sex, and it gets worse. Grace gets pregnant the night she loses her virginity and has to face senior year with a baby on board.

6. What inspired you to want to become a writer?
A few years ago, I was sitting in the movie theatre watching Twilight with my daughter when I suddenly thought, I can do that. Not long after that I started writing my first book.

7. Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
When I opened the box of books my publisher sent to me and held one in my hands, the whole experience finally felt real to me.

8. What is your guilty pleasure?
Cake. I don’t care what kind, as long as it has lots of gooey frosting.

9. What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you’d be embarrassed to admit?
I love Sixteen and Pregnant and Teen Mom. The girls’ stories are heartbreaking, and I think the show provides a great public service.

10. Finish the sentence — one book I wish I had written is . . .
The Time Traveler’s Wife

11. Horror or Romance?
Romance all the way. I love a love story, with a happy ending, of course.

Louder Than Words

The debut novel of an American original, Laurie Plissner’s is both medical thriller and lyric love story in the tradition of magical realism

Since the snowy night when her family’s car slammed into a tree, killing her parents and little sister, Sasha has been unable to speak except through a computer with a robotic voice. Nothing is wrong with her body; that’s healed. But, after four years, Sasha’s memory, and her spirit, are still broken. Then one day, she’s silently cussing out the heavy book she dropped at the library when a gorgeous, dark-haired boy, the kind of boy who considers Sasha a freak or at least invisible, “answers” Sasha’s hidden thoughts — out loud. Yes, Ben can read minds; it’s no big deal. He’s part of a family with a host of unusual, almost-but-not-quite-supernatural talents. Through Ben’s love, Sasha makes greater progress than she has with a host of therapists and a prominent psychiatrist. With him to defend her, bullies keep the world from ever understanding Sasha, he pulls away. Determined to win him and prove her courage by facing her past, Sasha confronts her past — only to learn that her family’s death was no accident and that a similar fate may wait for her, in the unlikeliest of disguises.
