Welcome to Author Donna Marie Lanheady
Although Donna lives on the east coast now, she was born in a suburb of Denver, moved near Boulder as a teenager, and lived in the Boulder area for much of her adult life, which is why she chose Colorado as the setting for her first two novels, Where Secrets Lie and Whoever You Are.
Books captivated Donna at a very young age. All those years and all those books inspired her to become a writer. The journeys the books took her on enthralled her. Their ability to make something imaginary seem real is what spoke to her, got into her blood, and would not let her rest. She had to write!
Donna loves to hear from readers and listen to their perspectives on her novels. It fascinates her how people can look at the same thing and see it in so many different ways, so if a reader ever wants to tell her what they think or just wants learn more about her, find her on Facebook, Goodreads, and Twitter.
What inspired you to want to become a writer?
Being a reader is what inspired me, and it still does. I love reading a variety of genres, experiencing different worlds, getting to know different characters. To say I am passionate about books doesn’t really do it justice. Books are like air and water to me. I cannot live without them.
If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be?
The Hobbit would be cool… but kinda scary too. Maybe that popped into my head because the movie will be out soon. I can’t wait to see if The Shire looks the way it does in my head!
Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
You could say there are elements of me in every character I write. Sometimes it’s closely related to me such as a similar experience or a similar emotional reaction. Sometimes it’s more distant such as a conversation I overheard or an event I happened to witness. Bottom line, every character springs from a seed in my imagination, but every seed materializes from my life experience.
What was your favorite children’s book?
I loved everything by Dr. Seuss. My mother took me to the library every Saturday, and I’d walk out with a huge pile of books, some I’d never read before and some old favorites. Once we were home, we’d read them aloud to each other and argue over whose turn it was, especially when it was one by Dr. Seuss. It was great fun!
Favorite places to travel?
I love to go to the beach or to the mountains. Walking in the surf and hiking in the woods are two of my favorite activities partly because Simon, my golden retriever mix, accompanies me on both.
Football… specifically the Denver Broncos. I bleed orange and blue.
Print or Ebook?
Now that’s a tough one. I have a bookcase full of collectible books, most are leather bound, and quite a few are signed. It took me years to accumulate them. I love every single one of those books! On the other hand, I’m not sure how I’d live without my kindle, which contains hundreds of books in one lightweight, convenient package. How cool is that? Besides, once I slapped a leather cover on it, it fit right in!
Coke or Pepsi?
I’m trying hard not to drink soda, but if I go somewhere that has fountain Cherry Coke, I can’t resist!
Pizza or Pasta?
Can I have a steak or a bacon cheeseburger instead?
Sweet or Salty?
Oh, please don’t get me started! After I have something sweet, I want something salty, but that makes me want something sweet again, which makes me want something salty again. Of course, the end result is me feeling ill, so like I said, please don’t get me started!
Shoes or Sandals?
Flip flops until my feet are freezing, then leather boots.
Facebook or Twitter?
You can find me on both. For me, they are each entertaining in their own way.
Text or Talk?
Text, text, text!
