Forged by Greed by Angela Orlowski Peart

Author Angela Orlowski-Peart:

Angela Orlowski-Peart was born and raised in Poland. She describes herself as European born, American by choice. She was just seven-years-old when she decided to learn English to translate her favorite Polish fairytales.

Angela is a Young Adult and Adult fiction writer. She completed her first YA paranormal romance novel, Forged by Greed, which is scheduled for publication on September 20, 2012. This is the first book in The Forged Series. Angela writes in multiple genres, including paranormal, fantasy, urban fiction, sci-fi, and short stories. She is a member of Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Western Washington Chapter (http://www.scbwi.org), and several authors’ and readers’ networking groups on Linkedin and Goodreads.

Angela loves reading good books almost as much as writing them. She can’t decide which is her favorite season—summer or fall. She speaks with Polish accent, but loves listening to the Southern drawl.
She is passionate about watercolor painting, fashion—especially stilettos, rock climbing, environment, and organic food and gardening. She lives in the Seattle area with her husband, two children, and a very independent and chronically curious cat.

Interview:
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
A huge jug of water, a box with many great books, and a large bottle of sunblock.

What is one book everyone should read?

The Bible.

If you were a superhero what would your name be?
Bat-Elasta-Girl, haha. Batman is my favorite male superhero, and Elasta Girl from The Incredibles is the coolest superhero female. So I would just combine the two of them.

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
So hard to choose just one! But okay – I would like to have a power to heal any illness, physical, mental, or emotional.

Night owl, or early bird?
It really depends on a day. Sometimes I love to get up very early in the morning, when the house is quiet, and everyone is still asleep. But the other days I stay up late and write, although my kids keep getting up from bed and want to chat, so I’m not very productive then.

Skittles or M&Ms?
Actually none – both contain artificial colors and corn syrup. I prefer organic candy, although I’m not much of a candy eater.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Because it combines a few interesting elements, like paranormal, fantasy, mythology, forbidden love, friendship, and greed.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Yes. I am working on the second book in The Forged Series and on a novella introducing my new sci-fi series. Both are scheduled for publication in 2013. The novella’s first draft should be finished by the end of November, and the second book in The Forged Series is planned to be wrapped up by late February 2013.

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world which would it be?
I would love to experience life in Forged by Greed. The novel takes place in Seattle, where I live, and the plot is firmly set in reality. But there are the elements of high fantasy, a lot of mythology, and of course my characters – Shape Shifters. It would be amazing to see it all with my own eyes and not just in my head.

What is your dream cast for your book?
Jatred Bianchi – definitely a much younger version of Colin Farrell
Jasmira Rosewater – I think Tika Sumpter looks just like my Jasmira
Penelope Stephanopoulos – definitely Jessica Alba
Erik Johansson – Kelan Lutz would be my first choice
Bogdan Tornwood – Jesse Eisenberg would do a great job portraying Bogdan.
Lusia Pasternak – Christina Ricci would be perfect
And Arriel Kebbel as my Georgeta Johansson (Erik’s sister)
Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
I actually have an iTunes playlist of my characters’ favorite songs. You can find it here:
If you could choose only one time period and place to live, when and where would you live and why?
Southern France, present time. I love that area and its architecture, food, wine, music.
If you could be one of the Greek Gods, which would it be and why?
I am fascinated with mythology and not only Greek, but Roman, Egyptian, Norse, Celtic… the list goes on. But if I had to settle on choosing just one Goddess in one of those mythologies, it would be Artemis, Apollo’s twin sister. She was a huntress, the goddess of wild animals, and protector of young girls. She was usually depicted as a girl dressed in a short knee-length tunic, carrying a hunting bow and quiver of arrows.
One of my characters in Forged by Greed, the Summer Goddess, Amber, can assume the look of Artemis.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
An actress. I loved playing dress up and reading out loud from the books, pretending I was on the stage.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
My dad has taught me to work hard and always believe in myself. Because of him, there is nothing that I can’t achieve if I put my heart into it.

You have won one million dollars what is the first thing that you would buy?
A pair of Christian Louboutin stilettos. I have this strange addiction to shoes!

Thank you, Kathy. These were fun questions. And thanks to everyone who stopped by to read it. Forged by Greed:

Their choice had been taken away long before they were born.

Two Seattle 16-year-old Shape Shifters, Jatred and Jasmira, are torn between following their hearts and protecting the order of the world. The path of the star-crossed lovers leads only to destruction.
The ancient Shape Shifter Races—the Winter wolves and the Summer leopards—exist on Earth, living among humans and fitting perfectly into modern life. Their secret societies are organized, each united by their own laws and traditions.
Two Goddesses, Crystal and Amber command their respective Races. One is on a quest to tilt the scale of power to her side. The other will never let it happen, even if it means sacrificing Jatred and Jasmira’s love.
The Amulet commissioned to bring stability into the world remains hidden and concealed with the help of advanced technology. Jatred is the guardian of the Amulet and key to the Goddesses’ conflict.
The forces of nature are disrupted. Earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions rake the world.  The Goddesses go to war and summon all their Shifters to join in the conflict. Jatred and Jasmira must fight not only for their love but to protect the future of both Races and humankind.
