All Fall Down by Julie Coulter Bellon – Interview & Giveaway

Welcome to Author Julie Coulter Bellon

Julie is the author of seven international suspense novels: Through Love’s Trials, On the Edge,Time Will Tell, All’s Fair, Dangerous Connections,Ribbon of Darkness and All Fall Down. She loves her work partly because she gets to travel to distant lands to research and add an authentic feel to all of her books. Her favorite cities so far are Athens, Paris, Ottawa, and London. She taught journalism at BYU for fourteen years and that kept her on the cutting edge of current events and world news—which is where she gets her story ideas.

She also has one non-fiction title: Be Prepared: A Parent’s Guide to the Duty to God and Eagle Scout Awards—What You Should Know and is part of two compilations, How Will Christmas Find Us and Life Lessons From Mothers of Faith.

She is the mother of eight children and when she’s not busy being a mom or a writer, you will find her browsing through bookstores to add to her book collection, at the library borrowing books, or reading the treasures she’s found.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
All Fall Down has nail-biting intrigue with a dash of romance that is guaranteed to keep you turning pages when you should be eating or sleeping.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
My new book is a spinoff from All Fall Down. It’s Colby’s story and boy, does he get himself in some trouble.

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
I’ve always loved telling stories and making up characters that have all sorts of things happen to them. I think I knew I wanted to write my own romantic suspense stuff after I watched Return of the Jedi and felt cheated out of not getting to see Han Solo and Leia’s wedding. We had all the action and the end would have been the perfect celebration of their wedding. But no, it was just an Ewok party. So I rewrote it and I’ve been writing my own stories ever since.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
When I was doing research for my book All’s Fair I was put in contact with a Marine who was stationed in Iraq. His unit would gather around the computer after they’d come in from their missions of disarming IEDs along the roadsides and answer all my questions. (And I was seriously grateful for them and their patience.) One of the things they told me they missed from home was the candy, Skittles. I arranged for a Skittles for Soldiers food drive at all my book signings after the book came out, and was able to collect 900 lbs of food and hygiene items for our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Just so our soldiers would know they weren’t forgotten and we appreciated them. My most tender memory was having an older man come to one of my book signings, with an army cap on, who came to my table and could only grasp my arm for a minute while the tears rolled down his face. He finally got out the words, “Thank you. Thank you for remembering us.” I couldn’t do anything else but cry with him. I will always treasure that memory.

If you could jump into a book and live in that world, which would it be?
I love regency period books and I would have loved to live back then with beautiful gowns and balls, and land and titles and protocols. I am fascinated by history and though I know I wouldn’t survive long without microwaves and indoor plumbing, I would have at least liked to experience a regency life for a short time.
(Although a spy book might be fun, too, since that’s what I write. Maybe I could jump into All Fall Down. Rafe was dreamy and traveling with him could be really interesting. I’ll give that more thought.)

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
For All Fall Down it would be Ready, Steady, Go by Paul Oakenfold

What’s your favorite season/weather?
I love fall because it’s not too hot and not too cold. I can curl up on my couch in front of my roaring fireplace and enjoy a book and a mug of hot cocoa. I also have a favorite lap quilt that I snuggle with. If my husband were next to me, I’d say that was the perfect evening.

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
Eight is Enough – the True Story of Julie Coulter Bellon, Mother of Eight Children, Author of Eight Books & How She Kept Her Sanity Amid the Chaos of Eight

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
I wanted to be a writer, doctor, veterinarian, teacher, and a ballerina. Luckily, being a writer, I can pretend to be all those things. (Although I did get my teaching certificate as well, so technically I can claim that one.)

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
Shakespeare. I love his work and would love to meet him, just to see him in action. I was able to go to the house where he was born in Stratford-on-Avon, see the home in which he proposed to his wife, and go to the place where the playhouse was that he worked in. He was a fascinating man who lived during an incredible time in history. Could you imagine being able to sit and have a conversation with Shakespeare? His imagination must have been incredible – dark, twisty, naughty, and fun. I would have loved to meet him.

All Fall Down

Ring around the rosy, a pocket full of posies, ashes, ashes we all fall down . . .

That simple rhyme turns negotiator Claire Michaels’ current hostage situation into an international incident. Claire just wants to help get everyone out safely, but as the crisis escalates she realizes she’s dealing with an al-Qaeda operative who has the means to become another bin Laden—with the potential to attack America. Claire has her own personal reasons for wanting to stop al-Qaeda, but time is slipping away as negotiations break down. Can she overcome her scars of the past in order to get the hostage out alive and possibly stop an assault on U.S. national security?

Navy SEAL Rafe Kelly is on leave to recover from a knee injury he suffered during his tour in Afghanistan and he doesn’t expect to be fighting terrorists on his home turf. But when he is taken hostage and his brother is kidnapped, Rafe teams up with a hostage negotiator in order to stay alive and get his brother back. The terrorist is always one step ahead of them, however, and the situation quickly turns from desperate to deadly.
