Winter Sparrow by Estevan Vega – Interview & Giveaway

Welcome to Author Estevan Vega

Since he was in fifth grade, Estevan Vega wanted to write. Determined to be published young, he released his first book, Servant of the Realm, at fifteen. At eighteen, The Sacred Sin was released. ARSON, his third and most popular novel, is the beginning of a series, followed by its sequel, ASHES. More in the series will come. Just released is THE FORSAKEN, a supernatural thriller. He has also released several short stories, which include VANILLA RED, BABY BLUE, and THE MAN IN THE COLORED ROOM. He lives in Connecticut.

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
I have this fear that if I go into the future, I may not like what I see, may get freaked out, or find that everyone was abducted by little green men. But there are times I would like to glimpse the future, just to see that I made it okay, or to see what my son or daughter might look like. I think that’d be cool.

If you were a superhero what would your name be?
Psh. I’m torn between Arson or evega, the final Avenger.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Mint chocolate chip. There are times I switch it up, but to me, nothing is as ridonkulous as mint and chocolate combined in a whirlwind of goodness.

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Steak and eggs. So good. I used to eat it once a week growing up.

Night owl, or early bird?

One food you would never eat?

I’m told anchovies are brutal. Never really been man enough to try them, though. I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to putting hairy sea creatures in my mouth. Just bugs me out. Although, I’m sure there’s some foreign delicacy that consists of brain or something. I ain’t no Hannibal Lecter.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.

Because it is filled with awesomesauce moments, ah-hah revelations, and insanely cool prose? Or how about a fantasy like no other? Or maybe because it’s a love story gone bad, sprinkled with supernatural elements that may leave you looking for a night light? Or last, and my personal favorite, because I’m desperate for new fans and need an ego boost.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.

One of my high school English teacher’s wife is also an English teacher, and I found out that she had a student of hers who said they wanted to be Estevan Vega when they grew up. I got all kinds of teary eyed. And then I scratched my head and said, “Wait, am I being punk’d?” Either way, it was awesome.

If you could be one of the Greek Gods, which would it be and why?

Whoever gets to kiss Aphrodite.

What is your favorite Quote?

“Your boyfriend wants me.” -shirt from Ocean’s 12

If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play the lead role and why?

Samuel L. Jackson. Nobody. EVER. Messes. With. SAM.

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?

A piece of me exists in all of them, I think. Some more than others, but yeah, that’s one of those unavoidable things, I suppose.

What’s the craziest writing idea you’ve had?
What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you? Take ballet. haha…psych! But seriously, don’t hate.

Favorite Candy?

Okay, when I was a kid, it was Twix, for sure. Now, it varies depending on my mood. Toblerone, Raisenets, Sour Patch kids. During movies, I tend to grab huge handfuls of these candies and devour them all at once. It’s the closest thing to a spiritual experience one will ever get watching a movie and eating candy.
What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
I was really looking forward to The Great Gatsby film, because I just really like that book and F. Scott, but it got pushed back until next year. blah

How do you react to a bad review?

I turn green, and all my clothes shred to pieces except for my skinny jeans.

If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?

I am Legend by Richard Matheson. I just want to meet that dude.

Favorite sport?

Making fun of people who play sports then secretly wishing I had their physique.

TV or Movies?

Regular or Diet?
Psh. C’mon, son.

Action or Drama?

I’m thinking of rewriting Hamlet to include Arnold Schwarzenegger. He’d quote some Shakespearean line in his bad accent and then just kill everybody with a shot gun in one hand and a cigar in his mouth. It would be epic.

Do you prefer a bunch of small gifts or one big expensive one?
Depends what the expensive one is. Any of you feel like donating to the “get Estevan Vega an iPad stat” fund?
