If you were a superhero what would your name be?
The Aggravator: I would aggravate everyone around me. Always.
My arch-enemy would be Mr. Nice Guy.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Brooding assassins, romance, forbidden love, obsessive evil, ancient races, forgotten civilizations, cities made of bells, seafaring ships, magical cloud dragons and sword fights!

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Viper’s Creed is only the second book in The Cat’s Eye Chronicles, and I have two more–maybe three–on my plate. Book 3 is already written and in the editing stage, and book 4 is being plotted. Beyond that, I have another series, The Wolves of Black River, that is also being expanded. 🙂

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Write a lot–and take writing workshops! It’s hard to see your growth as a writer or know how skilled you really are until you go to a workshop. You’ll get real feedback, learn valuable techniques, and break through writer’s block like a bulldozer on crack. DO IT.

What is your favorite Quote?
“Do you know what it feels like to be aware of every star, every blade of grass? Yes. You do. You call it ‘opening your eyes again.’ But you do it for a moment. We have done it for eternity. No sleep, no rest, just endless… endless experience, endless awareness. Of everything. All the time. How we envy you, envy you! Lucky humans, who can close your minds to the endless deeps of space! You have this thing you call… boredom? That is the rarest talent in the universe! We heard a song — it went ‘Twinkle twinkle little star….’ What power! What wondrous power! You can take a billion trillion tons of flaming matter, a furnace of unimaginable strength, and turn it into a little song for children! You build little worlds, little stories, little shells around your minds, and that keeps infinity at bay and allows you to wake up in the morning without screaming!”
— Terry Pratchett (A Hat Full of Sky)

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
Always! I use other people as inspiration, too. I love dark, conflicted characters the most. As you might know, all writers keep their suffering under a tight lid, like a hurricane in a jar. And we all suffer, though some more silently than others, and all of that white-lipped-jar-tight-agony comes spewing out as a tyrannical villain, a desperate hero, or a great city turned to ash. I would say that every aspect of my stories–from the setting to the dialogue–is an expression of myself.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
“Don’t compare yourself to others. Do what you love diligently and with all of your heart, and you will naturally rise to the top.” -Theodore W. Shreffler

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
How I Imagined My Life
Delusional: A Memoir

What is your guilty pleasure?
Eating Top Ramen and watching Netflix. My current addiction is Pretty Little Liars. I am eons behind in the series, but oh well!

What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you’d be embarrassed to admit?
Pretty Little Liars, as mentioned above. Once Upon a Time (baby mamma drama, anyone?), Daydream Nation, Nola, old Kung Fu movies (the cheesier the better!) For books, I actually read a lot of boring nonfiction about religion and spirituality. But I’d never tell anyone that, because it makes me look weird. 😉

Write a Haiku about your book:
“Viper’s Creed”

The black dagger’s blade
slid across her throat with slight
pressure. She shuddered.

Shoes or Sandals?
Sandals, always.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I live in Los Angeles and work for a fashion magazine. I regularly interview cool celebrity types and bands. I love my job!
