Author Interview: The Shapeshifter’s Secret by Heather Ostler (plus giveaway)

Welcome to Author Heather Ostler

The Official Biography
Heather Ostler grew up near the mountains with a rambunctiously entertaining family. She majored in English at Utah Valley University, and soon began composing stories about masquerades, water nymphs, and shapeshifters. She and her husband, Kellen, reside in Highland, Utah with two remarkably pleasant pugs.

The Fun Biography
I like fortune cookies, lucky pennies, shooting stars, and implausible coincidences. I’m always cold and have at least 5 different flavors of hot cocoa on hand at all times. I’m a sucker for happy endings and like to eat dessert first. I think Muppets Christmas Carol is one of the best movies ever, along with The Parent Trap. English accents, cloudy days, and family inside jokes make me smile. I am a writer, and I love finding inspiration in art, music, nature, seasons, and relationships.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.

Every time I receive a letter from a reader saying that they enjoyed The Shapeshifter’s Secret, I am overjoyed and humbled. I don’t know why, but it always brings me to tears. I suppose it’s because getting published is a long, tough journey, and receiving those letters reminds me that it’s definitely worth all the hard work!

What inspired you to want to become a writer?

Both of my parents. When I was in Jr. High, I told my dad I wanted to become a writer and he told me to go for it. My mother constantly sat with me in bookstores while I poured over fantasy novels, and she always supported my dream of writing.

How did you know you should become an author?

I didn’t like reading when I was younger (gasp!). However, when I found the right books, everything changed and a new world opened for me. I realized that I wanted to create that same kind of magic for others; I wanted to become an author.

If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is one of my very favorite novels, and I think I would pass out from happiness if J.K. Rowling signed a copy for me.

Both! I love animals.

What is your favorite way to spend a rainy day?

Rainy, stormy weather is my favorite. I like to drink hot chocolate, read, write, and cuddle with my two pugs.

The Shapeshifter’s Secret by Heather Ostler

Like any sixteen-year-old, Julia’s used to dealing with problems. From her overprotective father to her absent mother to a teacher who definitely has it in for her. But everything changes when Julia’s reactions become oddly vicious and angry—more animal than human. This action-packed adventure has it all: humor, romance, and a plot that’ll keep you guessing to the very last page.
