Author Interview & Book Giveaway: Sierra & Lancaster House by Taylor Dean

Welcome to Author Taylor Dean

Taylor Dean lives in Texas and is the mother of four grown children. Upon finding herself with an empty nest, she began to write the stories that were always wandering around in her head, quickly finding that she had a passion for writing, specifically romance. Whether it’s paranormal, contemporary, or suspense—you’ll find all sub-genres of romance in her line-up.

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been making up stories in my head. The thing is I was never simply imagining, I was literally writing the stories in my head as I thought about them—sentence by sentence. All. The. Time. I finally decided to sit down at the computer and actually write my stories. Once I commit them to paper, I’m free and I no longer think about them. It’s as if the story is now expunged from my memory banks. For me, becoming a writer was a need, an obsession. Still, I was really surprised when my family and friends read my books and actually liked them. Their encouragement was a huge boost and made me realize, ‘hey, maybe I could do this for the general public!’ And here I am.
Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
When I received my first two AMAZING reviews of Lancaster House!  It was the first time I’d received reviews from someone other than family and friends. When I heard those reviewers say they couldn’t put the book down, my heart soared. It’s such a gratifying experience to know that you captivated someone with your story. Writing is so personal. You literally pour your heart onto the page.
Night owl, or early bird?
Night owl. I tend to stay up late and work on my writing. My husband says I’m on swing shift. It’s true.
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
You will be taken out of your life, and temporarily experience life in someone else’s shoes.
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Over the next year and a half, I am slowly releasing all six of my completed novels, to include a sequel to Lancaster House. After that, I have two more novels I am eager to write: one will be a military romance with an unexpected twist. (we spent ten years active duty army!) And the other will be a futuristic romance I have been dying to write for YEARS now! Don’t know if it will ever see the light of day, we’ll see how it turns out.
What is your dream cast for your book?
For Lancaster House:
Zoe: Julianne Hough
As for the hero, (saying his name is a spoiler) well, that’s a hot debate in our household. I’m up for suggestions!
Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Music is a HUGE inspiration to me. For Lancaster House: Mad World (as sung by Adam Lambert during the American Idol finale—this performance actually inspired me to write Lancaster House) And ‘If it Kills Me’ by Jason Mraz.
For Sierra: “To Make You Feel My Love” by Garth Brooks and “Sweet Dream, Beautiful Nightmare” (as sung by Jessica Sanchez on American Idol) I’m a huge American Idol fan, can you tell?

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Never, never, never give up. Persevere. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re wasting your time.
How did you know you should become an author?
Years ago, my husband and I would lie in bed till late at night while I recited my storylines to him. He listened intently and always excitedly gave me his input. That was my first clue.
