Author Interview & Book Giveaway: I Was In Love With A Short Man Once

Welcome to Author Kimberly Dalferes

Kimberly “Kimba” J. Dalferes is a native Floridian, but has spent the past sixteen years pretending to be a Virginian. She is a bit worried that much of her current writing focuses on public transportation and she has no rational explanation as to why this is true. Her accomplishments have included successfully threading a sewing bobbin, landing a 35 pound Alaskan King salmon, and scoring a Chinese vase at an estate sale for $1. She recently discovered that she might be related to Princess Margaret Tudor, the sister of King Henry the VIII (on her mama’s side). A proud Florida State University graduate, she often sings the Seminole fight song out loud for no reason other than she still remembers all the words. She currently lives, works, and writes in Fairfax, Virginia with her husband Greg, dog Taz, and occasionally her son Jimmy, when he is home from college.

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
Ernest Hemingway. There is such a mythology surrounding him; would love to meet him and draw my own conclusions.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Working on the sequel to “I Was In Love With a Short Man Once.” Sequel tentatively titled: “Magic Power-Fishing Panties.”

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
T-R-O-U-B-L-E by Travis Tritt.

What is your favorite Quote?
“Never complain; never explain.” Katherine Hepburn

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
A film director. I would get to be bossy AND work with all the beautiful people.

Favorite Candy?
Dove milk chocolate. Crazy how well a little piece will get you through a PMS attack.

You have won one million dollars what is the first thing that you would buy?
My Grandmother’s house in Florida. I learned to cook, sew, and love my family in that house.

Which authors have influenced you most how?
Probably Erma Bombeck. Do you know that when she started, her columns could be no longer than 450 words? She conveyed so much in few words. I still love to go back and read her work.

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
LOL, “I Was In Love With a Short Man Once.” OK, that wasn’t really a fair question…

What’s your favorite season/weather?
I love summertime. I grew up in Florida, spent the first 30 years of my life in Florida, so, the more heat the better. I can handle the humidity, it’s the cold that slays me. Hey, you don’t have to shovel humidity.

Favorite smell?
White Shoulders perfume; it’s what my Nana wore.

Favorite sport?
College football – GO NOLES!!

Horror or Romance?
Romance, most horror movies just gross me out. I’ve seen every George Clooney movie EXCEPT “Dusk to Dawn” – I don’t do vampires.

Harry Potter or Twilight?
Harry Potter because I. DON’T. DO. VAMPIRES.

Beach or Pool?
The beach!! You can walk for miles along the beach; walking laps around a pool just ain’t the same thing.

Text or Talk?
Talk. I’m from the south, so, my mouth is running ALL the time. You know that southern saying: “If you don’t have anything nice to say, come sit next to me.”

Favorite quote from a movie?

Wisdom to live by: “Lord loves a workin’ man; don’t trust whitey; see a doctor and get rid of it.” The Jerk

Do you prefer a bunch of small gifts or one big expensive one?
I love small, meaningful presents. I don’t need expensive, I just like to know someone cares.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I have size eleven feet. When I tell people they always seem to respond: “Oh, that can’t be true.” Hey, if I were going to lie, wouldn’t I say they were smaller?
