Author Interview: The Unsacred Gift by C.S. Dorsey

Welcome to Author C.S. Dorsey

C. S. Dorsey currently lives in Northern California. She graduated from the University of Phoenix with an Associate’s Degree in Financial Services, and is currently working for a financial institution. She never thought about writing until one day this girl started talking to her in her head and never stop.

What inspired you to become a writer?
I really didn’t have any inspiration. The character(s) just kind of came to me. I was thinking the idea of writing a book would be nice, but I never really thought that I could actually do it. I told my mom that I wanted to write a book, but she just looking at me like I was crazy. I wrote one page one day and then left it in my word doc file for two days. Then all of a sudden this voice just came to me in my head. From then on I just wrote everything that this voice was saying. Two and a half months later The Unsacred Gift was complete. Everything I write now the characters speaks on their own. I am just the ghost writer for them…LOL

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
My favorite book when I was a teen was The Coldest Winter Ever by Sista Soulja. It took a while for me to get into reading. My mom would try and make me read when I was younger, but my love for TV was greater. It wasn’t until I read that book that I started really reading. By this time I was in my junior year in high school. Better late than never.
What is your favorite Quote?
“It’s not about what you know, its who you know.”
What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
The best advice I have ever got was from my mom. She is a very supportive mother in everything I do (that is legal…LOL). She always tell me, “it never hurts to try.” I live by this every day. I tell anyone that is scared to do something, “just go for it. You just never know what will happen.”s
What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
My advice is read…a whole lot. Not only read books in the genre that you want to write in, but read other genres as well. Then that way you can get an idea of the different styles of writing. Also if you hear voices its ok, just write whatever the voice says 🙂
Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
LOL!! Funny you should mention that. There is a theme song for my book that I what to list and that is…Syrup & Honey by Duffy. Its a scene in the book where Sissy (the main character) and Chris (long lost sweet heart) have a “moment” in the book. I think this song (one of many I listed for this book) would be perfect for that part.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
If you want a book to suck you in where you can’t get out, then The Unsacred Gift is it.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I never dreamed of becoming a write. I wanted to be a famous singer and a fashion designer. I guess destiny had its own agenda for me 🙂
