Interview:
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Becoming: The Life & Musings of a Girl Poet is my latest poetry book. It is a collection of poems and articles that are inspirational and spiritual in nature– the central theme is about living a life of fulfillment. I wrote about various topics such as love, faith, and domestic violence. The book is written from a female point of view. I definitely would like to write more poetry books, a book on marketing and perhaps a self-help book or a novel. But my main focus now is to promote this book! My first but was Unscrambled Eggs, and it is seven years since I penned a new book. So, write now I just want to let as many readers learn about this book as much as possible.

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
I think music is what initially inspired me to write. I started writing song lyrics at around 12, and my writing journey continued to progress incrementally from that point on.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
It would by the song Fly by Nicki Minaj, which deals with perseverance and is overall inspirational.

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
I would tell aspiring authors to research the writing/book industry first, before submitting your manuscript. Because authors have to wear many hats and are required to do much more than write. We are marketers, designers, webmasters, booksellers… and there is so much to learn and to know. And if you don’t know the industry, you will waste significant of time learning on the curve and not promoting their books effectively.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
When I was younger I wanted to be some type of entertainer. I grew up enjoying music and loved to dance. I also loved writing songs. I definitely wanted to be an entertainer and my writing provides a creative outlet for me to perform sort-of–speak.

How did you know you should become an author?
I really didn’t know. I was just compelled to write and to take this path despite doubts and questions I had. A friend of my mom convinced me that being an author and writer was my calling.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
The best advice I ever had is to dream big and don’t ever limit myself!

If you were a bird, which one would you be?
I would be a dove or a swan.

Who or what inspired you to become an author?
I was inspired by many things: love of music, poetry, songwriters who I admired, and Dr. Maya Angelou.

Who are your favorite authors of all time?
Dr. Maya Angelou and Jane Austen.
