Author Interview & Book Giveaway: Taken at Dusk (Shadow Falls #3) by C.C. Hunter

Welcome to Author C.C. Hunter

C.C. Hunter grew up in Alabama, where she caught lightning bugs, ran barefoot, and regularly rescued potential princes, in the form of Alabama bullfrogs, from her brothers. Today, she’s still fascinated with lightning bugs, mostly wears shoes, but has turned her focus to rescuing mammals. She now lives in Texas with her four rescued cats, one dog, and a prince of a husband, who for the record, is so not a frog. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, spending time with her family, or is shooting things-with a camera, not a gun.
C.C. Hunter is a pseudonym. Her real name is Christie Craig and she also writes humorous romantic suspense romance novels for Grand Central. www.christie-craig.com

INTERVIEW:
What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?

C.C.:  Pizza.  Absolutely no question about that, I love leftover pizza for breakfast.  Of course, I haven’t been able to have leftover pizza for breakfast (or for any other meal) in years, thanks to my son.  Honestly, I think he must have a Pizza Alert or something installed on his phone because every time I put leftover pizza in the fridge, he swoops in during the middle of the night and eats it.  Doesn’t even leave a piece of stale pizza crust.  Seriously.  All I see the next morning is a crumpled pizza box.  *sniff*

One food you would never eat?

C.C.:  I don’t remember the name of it but it’s a famous mountain toad that’s considered a delicacy in China.  Wait.  I did accidentally eat that.  Well, I did until the translator told me what it was.  LOL.

Pet Peeves?

C.C.:  Bullies.  Lemon seeds in my drink.  Sorry, they both tick me off.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.

C.C.:  Okay, but I gotta warn you—my sentence is going to be a long one.  LOL.  People should read my book . . . because real life can be tough, and everyone needs to remember what it is like to fall in love, laugh out loud with your girlfriends, and work to discover the hidden truths about ourselves.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?

C.C.:  Right now, I’m finishing the final draft of Whispers at Moonrise, book 4 in the series.  After that, I’ll have one more book to write in the Shadow Falls series.  It will be hard to say good-bye to Kylie and her friend but the good news is that I already have an idea for a new series and my editor loves it.  So I’m thinking I’ll be working on that in the near future.

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?

C.C.:  Oh, this one is easy.  One of my absolute favorite books as a child was E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web.  It really stuck with me, too.  To my pre-teen self, Charlotte, the barn spider, and Wilbur, the pig, were the perfect romantic couple.  Crazy, huh?  A romance between a mama spider and a piglet.  But I thought it worked, in a cross-species relationship kind of way, which is probably why I have so many cross-species relationships in my Shadow Falls novels.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?

C.C.:  I just discovered this song not too long ago.  And I think it’s perfect for Kylie:  Natasha Bedingfield’s Unwritten.  It’s a beautiful song about a person starting on a personal journey of self-discovery.  She doesn’t know where the journey will take her because her future is still unwritten, but that’s okay because she’s the one who will shape her own destiny.

I am unwritten, can’t read my mind, I’m undefined
I’m just beginning, the pen’s in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

I think that song really fits Kylie and her journey of self-discovery in the Shadow Falls series.  Each new gift she discovers she has, tells her a bit more about her heritage.  But Kylie knows that whatever she may discover about herself, her destiny is her own.

And now that I think about it, that could be the theme song for everyone at Shadow Falls.

What is your favorite Quote?

C.C.:  Hmm.  That’s another tough one.  One of my favorite quotes is from the movie Galaxy Quest.  Now, the movie’s a comedy with Tim Allen, and it’s about this Star Trek-esq TV show that has inspired a race of space aliens to follow the show’s motto of “Never give up.  Never surrender.”  But the quote always stuck with me because that is so true about all the important things in life, whether it’s writing a book or finishing a project that nearly has you down for the count.

Never give up.

Never surrender.

Yep.  That quote still inspires me to keep plugging away at whatever task I’m working on, no matter how hard it may become.  Oh, and the movie’s a lot of fun to watch, too.

What’s the craziest writing idea you’ve had?

C.C.:  Well, there was this one idea I had about a paranormal camp, and a girl named Kylie who saw ghosts and discovered she wasn’t human.   Since then, I never toss out an idea if it seems a little too crazy.  LOL.

Cats or Dog?

C.C.:  Now, that is just not fair.  I love both.  Right now, I have Skitter, my rescue kitty, sitting on my desk, purring away.  And Lady, our former junkyard dog is lying on the sofa.  (Yep.  Lady came from a junkyard. Hubby found her when he was searching for parts for his Falcon restoration project.)  Lady thinks her job is to keep a watchful eye on the backyard in case squirrels attack.  Okay, I’m not sure exactly what Lady is keeping an eye on but from the way she chases squirrels, that would be my guess.

Here are a couple of my favorite pictures of Lady and Skitter. And one of my other cats, Bob, who is with his buddy, Floppy Skivvies.  Believe it or not, Floppy was stray rabbit who my son brought home.

Favorite quote from a movie?

C.C.:  Hmm.  Well, that is another hard one but I think I’ll go with something Yoda said in The Empire Strikes BackDo, or do not. There is no try. Now, I love this saying because it really summarizes how I feel about achieving goals.  We need to commit to the task, decide to give it our all.  Or, as Yoda put it, Do, or do not do.  There is no try.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

C.C.:  Hmm.  How about this:  I was once arrested for calling a cop a pig and cracking his car windshield when I threw a beer bottle at him.  Luckily, I was playing an extra in a movie about the Kent State protests and student shooting, and I didn’t really have to go jail.  And in case you want to see the clip, sorry.  That one ended up on the cutting room floor; otherwise I know I’d have been a huge movie star.  But my face is here and there in other short scenes throughout the movie.
