Lacrimosa by Christine Fonseca – Author Interview & Book Giveaway

Welcome to Author Christine Fonseca

School psychologist by day, critically acclaimed YA and nonfiction author by night, Christine Fonseca believes that writing is a great way to explore humanity. Her debut YA Gothic series, The Requiem Series, including DIES IRAE and LACRIMOSA, examines the role of redemption, sacrifice and love. Her nonfiction titles include 101 SUCCESS SECRETS FOR GIFTED KIDS and EMOTIONAL INTENSITY IN GIFTED STUDENTS. When she’s not writing or spending time with her family, she can be sipping too many skinny vanilla lattes at her favorite coffee house or playing around on Facebook and Twitter. Catch her daily thoughts about writing and life on her blog.

1.      What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
My best advice – “The inbox is always full, so stop stressing about it.” Okay, so that does totally apply to writing, but I take it to mean there is always too much to do!

2.      Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
I was at one of my coffee houses when a teen reader approached me to talk about one of my books. Definitely one of my proudest moments.

3.      How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
You know, this is a tough one for me. I tend to minimize successes. The sale of my first book (and the sale of every subsequent book) was no exception. My children, husband and I toasted to the sale at dinner. That was it. But, I am learning – so I promise everyone reading this that I will do my best to celebrate every success more. It is so very important.

4.      In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with?
There are two that come to mind immediately, maybe three—James Patterson (because he is so prolific), JK Rowling (because she is a master of plot), and Libba Bray (because she is a master at infusing her stories with “smart” humor). Any opportunity to work closely with any of them would be amazing to me!

5.      Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I have a ton of projects going on. First and foremost is finishing the Requiem series. After that, I have several psychological thrillers in various states of completion, as well as a potential spin off series and some other things. Always busy in “Christine-land”.

1.      Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
I actually think Elana Johnson said it best in her blurb for LACRIMOSA – “The last novel you’ll need to read to understand true sacrifice.”

2.      Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
In truth, there are pieces of me in most of my characters. LACRIMOSA is no exception. Especially in the character Nesy. In fact, I think it was our similarities that actually made her so hard to craft – I didn’t want any of my personality leaking into hers, if that makes sense.

3.      Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Oh definitely—for Nesy, it would be “Lost in Paradise” by Evanescence; for Aydan it’s a toss-up between “Iridescent” by Linkin Park and “Something I Can Never Have” by Nine Inch Nails

1.      What is your favorite Quote?
“The story I am writing exists, written in absolutely perfect fashion, some place, in the air. All I must do is find it and copy it.” – Jules Renard (“Diary”, February 1895)

2.      What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
Like everyone, I am crazy excited for Hunger Games. I am also fan-girl nuts/crazy for Dark Knight Rises. Like beyond excited!!!

3.      Give us a glimpse into a typical day in your day starting when you wake up till you lie down again. Okay – this is pretty scary, but here you go:

5:00am – get up. Meditate, social networking, breakfast

6:00am – get everyone else up, get ready for work

6:45am – leave the house, get Starbucks, get to work

7:15am – work day begins, filled with lots of craziness

12:00pm (give or take) – take some version of lunch, catch up on social networking stuff, draft/read/write for 20 minutes

5:00pm – leave work, taxi children to various tasks, draft/read/write

7:00pm – home, dinner of some sort, exercise of some sort, study with the kids, chillax

9:00pm – make sure the tween is headed for bed

10:00pm – make sure the teen is headed for bed

10:30pm – collapse in bed

I warned you that it was pretty scary

4.      Randomness:

TV or Movies?
Movies all the way. Movies on TV, just as good

Black or White?
That’s tough, but I’m going with black

Print or Ebook?
I am totally a print girl at heart, but I read more ebooks these days

Horror or Romance?
YES! Both!

Harry Potter or Twilight?
Don’t kill me for this – Harry Potter all the way!

Text or Talk?

As if casting out demons isn’t hard enough, five-hundred-year-old Nesy has to masquerade as a teenage girl to do it. Nesy is the best of the warrior angels called Sentinals. She never makes mistakes, never hesitates, never gets emotionally involved. Until she meets Aydan.
He is evil incarnate; a fallen angel that feeds off the souls of others. Everything Nesy is supposed to hate. But she can’t, because he’s also the love of her former life as a human girl—a life that ended too soon, tying her to emotions she was never supposed to feel.
Now Nesy must choose between doing her duty—damning Aydan to the fiery depths of hell—or saving him, and condemning herself.
