Excerpt:

She pried her lids open a bit wider. When the room gradually swam into focus, she positively identified it as the hospital ward on the ship. She let out a contented sigh.
The sound must have alerted the people in the room, because moments later a shape loomed over her. Pulling her gaze upward, she felt a wave of comfort when the face of Lita Marques beamed at her.
“Welcome home, Tree,” Lita said. “Why don’t you stick around for awhile?”
Triana Martell found the strength to smile, and mumbled a thick “hi.”

Interview:
If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
Physicist Brian Cox; Margaret Thatcher; Michael Chabon; Ringo Starr; Sir Ken Robinson

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
John Lennon

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
A non-fiction book that explores the mission of my education non-profit foundation, The Big Brain Club. That book is called Smart Is Cool. Also, finishing the first book in a new middle grade/YA mystery series.

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
I knew when I read Arthur C. Clarke’s “Rendezvous With Rama” that I would someday be a published author.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
When parents tell me, “My son/daughter never enjoyed reading until they picked up your book.” NOTHING beats that.

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be?
Jasper Fforde’s “The Big Over Easy”

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
A song that I wrote for the second book in the series (The Web of Titan), and sung by the character named Lita Marques. It’s called “A New Life.” The song has even been recorded, which is cool.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
I’m already doing that by living in Colorado. A close second might be near Cinque Terre, in Italy.

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
I’ll admit that the thinking/talking computer in my Galahad series, named Roc, is actually me.

What was your favorite children’s book?
I was crazy about The Hardy Boys, and a series called The Three Investigators.

If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?
Easy! It’s gotta be To Kill A Mockingbird.

Give us a glimpse into a typical day in your day starting when you wake up till you lie down again.
I wake up at 4:15 and drive to Mix 100 Radio in Denver, where I host the top-rated morning radio show. Then I’m home by 11ish, where I answer email/FB message/etc. Then I work on whatever book/foundation project I have at hand. I usually get on the treadmill around 4ish. After 6p I’m back to the laptop, usually writing for another hour or two.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
A bottle of Silver Oak.

Finish the sentence- one book I wish I had written is….
The Stand

Favorite places to travel?
Two memorable trips that truly moved me: A hike up to Machu Picchu, and a visit to Stonehenge. I recommend both.
