Debut Author Interview & Book Giveaway: Katana by Cole Gibsen

Welcome to Debut Author Cole Gibsen

When Cole Gibsen isn’t writing books for young adults, she can be found rocking out with her band, sewing crazy costumes for the fun of it, picking off her nail polish, or drinking milk straight from the jug — provided no one is looking.

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
I’d love to be able to travel to fifteenth century Japan just to take in the culture.

If you were a superhero what would your name be?
Obsessively Balances Her Checkbook Girl. My arch nemesis would be Throws Away All of His Receipts Boy (i.e. my husband.)

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
Without hesitation, Dr. Seuss.

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
My typical breakfast is a wildberry Poptart and a cup of coffee. That’s probably something I shouldn’t tell people… Let’s pretend I eat egg whites and a slice of whole wheat toast. *gag*

One food you would never eat?
Anything that involves animal intestines. *shudder*

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
When I was a teenager, I was kicked out of my house and lived out of my car for a brief period. During that time my only source of entertainment was the books I checked out from the library. It was those late night reading sessions fueled by a flashlight that ignited my love of books and writing.

What is your favorite Quote?
“Be who you are and say what you feel because the people who mind don’t matter and the people who matter don’t mind. ~Dr. Seuss”

What was your favorite children’s book?
I have a toddler so I’m constantly reading children’s books. My current favorite is BETTY BUNNY LOVES CHOCOLATE CAKE.

If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be?
Joe Mangiello

You have won one million dollars what is the first thing that you would buy?
A Ford Fiesta. I love those little cars—I think they look like frogs.

What do you do in your free time?
When I’m not writing, I can be found at my sewing machine making hair accessories, costumes, or piecing together quilts.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
My husband took me to The Melting Pot. Is there any better way to celebrate than with chocolate fondue?

Katana by Cole Gibsen

Rileigh Martin would love to believe that adrenaline had given her the uncanny courage and strength to fend off three muggers. But it doesn’t explain her dreams of 15th-century Japan, the incredible fighting skills she suddenly possesses, or the strange voice giving her battle tips and danger warnings.

While worrying that she’s going crazy (always a reputation ruiner), Rileigh gets a visit from Kim, a handsome martial arts instructor, who tells Rileigh she’s harboring the spirit of a five-hundred-year-old samurai warrior.

Relentlessly attacked by ninjas, Rileigh has no choice but to master the katana–a deadly Japanese sword that’s also the key to her past. As the spirit grows stronger and her feelings for Kim intensify, Rileigh is torn between continuing as the girl she’s always been and embracing the warrior inside her.
