Book Giveaway & Author Interview: Perception by Kim Harrington

Welcome to Author Kim Harrington

Kim Harrington lives in Massachusetts with her husband and son. When not writing, she’s most likely reading, watching one of her favorite TV shows, or fantasizing about her next vacation. She has no psychic powers and is cool with that. Her debut young adult novel, Clarity, came out on March 1, 2011 from Scholastic.

INTERVIEW:
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Teleportation. Mainly because I’m impatient and it would be great for traveling. 🙂

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Chocolate chip.

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
My maternal grandmother.

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Sugary cereal. Right now I’m on a Fruity Pebbles kick.

One food you would never eat?
You would be surprised! There are so many foods I’ve never tried. I’m the pickiest eater on the planet. But, just to pick one, I’d say lobster. Between the little eyes and having to crack through the exoskeleton, and the “meat” itself looks all slippery. Blaaaaaaaaaaargh. (Sorry, just puked.)

Pet Peeves?
People who talk during movies. Shaddup!

Skittles or M&Ms?
Peanut Butter M&Ms!

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
After PERCEPTION (3/1/12), I have a standalone coming in early 2013. And a new middle-grade mystery series called SLEUTH OR DARE coming in May 2012.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
A writer. But I never thought it would actually happen. I’m quite the pessimist.

If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play the lead role and why?
Jennifer Garner. I just love her.

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
Clare and I definitely share the same sense of humor. 🙂

Disney World! I’m a bit of a fanatic. I’ve been sixteen times.

Favorite music?
I like all kinds, but my favorite is alternative. My favorite band is Interpol.

Garlic. I like to take deep breaths in the parking lots of Italian restaurants.

Favorite sport?
Hockey. I’m a huge Boston Bruins fan.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I think people would be surprised to find out how shy I am because I’m very outgoing online. But in person I struggle with shyness big time.

Perception (Clarity #2)

When you can see things others can’t, what do you do when someone’s watching you?

Everybody knows about Clarity “Clare” Fern. She’s the psychic girl in school, the one who can place her hands on something and see hidden visions from the past.

Only Clare would rather not be a celebrity. She prefers hanging back, observing. Her gift is not a game to her.

But then someone starts playing with her head . . . and heart. Messages and gifts from a secret admirer crop up everywhere Clare turns. Could they be from Gabriel, the gorgeous boy who gets Clare’s pulse racing? Or from Justin, Clare’s hopeful ex-boyfriend who’d do anything to win her back?

One thing is certain. Clare needs to solve this mystery, and soon. Because the messages are becoming sinister, and a girl in town has suddenly disappeared.
