What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
I like green ice cream, so I’ll take either pistachio and mint chocolate chip.

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I don’t know if Mary Poppins counts as a superhero, but I would like to be able to clean up the house by singing a song.  Heck, I’d just like to be able to sing.

If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
Well, I’d love to have Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte, but I suspect they wouldn’t get along.  So I’d also invite a couple of my favorite peacemakers—Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.  For the fifth, I’d invite Paula Deen.  I figure Paula could come over ahead of time to make the dinner.

What is your dream cast for your book?
First of all, let me admit that most of what I know about celebrities comes from Sesame Street.  With that being said, I’d choose Maggie Gyllenhaal to play the main character, Anne, and John Krasinski to play Neil.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Reading this modern version of Jane Austen’s Persuasion is the next best thing to actually falling in love yourself.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
I used to watch The Brady Bunch a lot, and I thought it would be so cool to be a maid like Alice.  I thought she was so funny.   I’m pretty much living my dream life now because my kids laugh at me and let me clean up their messes.

How do you react to a bad review?
At first, publication was like a roller coaster for me.  If I heard good news, I was up.  If I heard bad news, I was down.  Then I decided to take some advice from You Are Special by Max Lucado.  My goal is to be like the Wemmick who doesn’t let the stars and dots stick to her.  So whether the review is good or bad—luckily they’ve been mostly good–it’s just a review.  I write because I love to write.  I also feel it’s part of my mission in life to write clean books.

I come from a nickname family.  When I was born, my mom was adamant that everyone should call me “Rebecca,” but my brothers didn’t exactly obey.  Most people call me “Becky,” but I’ll also answer to “Beck-boo” and “Buppy.”

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
The Anne of Green Gables series.  I read them all.

Favorite places to travel?

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Read the best books you can find.

Persuasion: A Latter-day Tale

When Anne broke off her engagement seven years ago, she thought she’d never see Neil Wentworth again. But when Neil’s brother buys the house she grew up in, it seems fate has other plans in store, and Anne is woefully unprepared for the roller coaster of emotions that accompanies Neil’s return. Fans of Persuasion will love this fast-paced, modern retelling of Jane Austen’s most romantic novel.
