Interview:
If you were a superhero what would your name be?
The Amazing Klutzy- able to trip over mere atoms and completely unable to dance with any rhythm.

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
It’s not really super power, but I wish I could sing. Granted, I can sing now, I just sound like someone stepping on a cat.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Mint chocolate chip.

Night owl, or early bird?
Night owl. I can be awake in the early morning, but my brain doesn’t kick in until later.

One food you would never eat?
I’m not crazy about anything with tentacles or eating organ meats. For example, I would never order headcheese with a side of octopus when out to eat.

Skittles or M&Ms?
Peanut Butter M &M’s

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I have a book called The Almost Truth, that will be out in December 2012. It’s the story of Sadie, a teenage con artist. When she discovers she looks like the age enhanced photo of a missing child she decides to pull the ultimate con, until she begins to suspect she may actually be the missing girl.

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be?
Harry Potter.

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Read. Read a lot. Books are the best teachers.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
I’m pretty fond of my current home in Vancouver Canada, but London is my favorite city in the world.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
I had a writing teacher pull me aside after class and tell me that my work was good and I should start sending it in. I told her I couldn’t because “what if it gets rejected.” She looked me in the eye and said: ” Eileen, I hate to tell you this, but you’re already not published. The worst thing that will happen is that you still won’t be published.” That was my aha moment. I realized I might not ever reach my dream of being a published author, but if I didn’t try I didn’t even stand a chance.

What was your favorite children’s book?
The Phantom Tollbooth.

How do you react to a bad review?
I make voodoo dolls of the reviewer and then do horrible things to them. I don’t actually. I think about it sometimes, but the truth is not everyone likes every book. I do my best to remember this and then move on. Chocolate helps.

What do you do in your free time?
Reading and knitting. I wish I had an exciting hobby like paragliding, but outside of my imagination, I’m very boring person.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
I bought a painting. I wanted to have something that whenever I looked at it I would be reminded that I had actually sold a book. I thought a painting would be far more inspiring than a paid off Visa bill.

The Education of Hailey Kendrick

Hailey Kendrick always does exactly what’s expected of her. She has the right friends, dates the perfect boy, gets good grades, and follows all the rules. But one night, Hailey risks everything by breaking a very big rule in a very public way…and with a very unexpected partner in crime. Hailey gets caught, but her accomplice does not, and Hailey takes the fall for both of them.
Suddenly, Hailey’s perfect life–and her reputation–are blowing up in her face. Her friends are all avoiding her. Her teachers don’t trust her. Her boyfriend won’t even speak to her for long enough to tell her that she’s been dumped.
They say honesty is the best policy–but some secrets are worth keeping, no matter the cost. Or are they?
