Book Giveaway & Author Interview: The Day of First Sun by Sheryl Steines

Welcome to Author Sheryl Steines.

Sheryl Steines’ mind is chaotic and surprising and it shows in her writing. Never one to sit back and see what may come, Sheryl is driven to write everyday. Somehow, amidst the chaos, she finds the time to volunteer and give talks to book clubs and students about her writing. She even walked the Avon Breast Cancer walk two years in a row.
Sheryl’s series Annie Loves Cham is full of surprises and mystery. Refusing to be restricted by genre Sheryl has taken the characters she loves and set them in new situations which test them and their friendships. The second book in the series is set to release in late summer 2012.

If you could travel in a time machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Into the past. I think it would be cool to see history up close. I’m not sure I’d want to know too much about the future. Some things are better left unknown.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would live in London. I love London, I speak the language and it would be a great place to keep as a home base when I travel to the rest of the Europe. It’s a dream of mine to live there for at least six months.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
I’ve always wanted to be an author, ever since I read Nancy Drew.

If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play the lead role and why?
Sandra Bullock because I love her movies. I think she’s a cool lady and people have told me for the last 20 years that I look like her.

Who are your favorite authors of all time?
Judy Blume was my first favorite author. I love Stephen King and JK. Rowling.

What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
I loved the Hunger Games as gruesome as the theory was behind it. I can’t wait to see the movie and hope it doesn’t disappoint.

If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. I read it for the first time in high school and fell in love with the story. As an English major in college I wrote several papers about different aspects of the book. I love the story, the real story.

What is your guilty pleasure?
Ninja Warrior. I find the show fascinating. As goofy as the obstacle courses seem at first, they are quite challenging and for those who compete in the tournament, it becomes a huge honor back in their hometowns. I love the show.

Horror or Romance?
Horror. I think horror movies and books allow you to experience fear in a safe environment without getting hurt. Romance, yuck, though I understand why people love it.

Harry Potter or Twilight?
Definitely Harry Potter. I feel the writing is better, the characters are more complex and likeable, I like the story far better.

Spontaneity or Planning Ahead?
I’m a procrastinator and don’t plan ahead real well. I find things far better for me if I don’t have high expectations and just let events fall into place on their own. I’d love more freedom to be more spontaneous, but with kids it’s hard. But I much prefer making a decision and going rather than planning ahead.

Shoes or Sandals?
Shoes mean winter, Sandals mean summer. I prefer summer, I prefer sandals. I love the heat on my feet that the sun gives. I feel far freer in sandals and much happier and more confident.

Do you prefer a bunch of small gifts or one big expensive one?
Small gifts. They are thoughtful and it takes more time to get someone several things that they will enjoy.

As they dig deeper into the mystery they must do so in front of the world while still protecting the secret of who they are and their lives in magic.
