INTERVIEW:
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.

Because it’s a fun, creative modern day “Mrs. Piggle Wiggle” that kids will love!

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Having kids tell me their favorite parts of the book!

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be?
I love “The Borrowers” series by Mary Norton. I would love to discover little people living in the walls. To this day, whenever I misplace something, I say “the Borrowers” took it!

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
I loved the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books by Betty MacDonald. I tried to emulate that style in writing “Tall Tales with Mr. K.”

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
Tahiti! There are no words to describe the color of the water in the South Pacific.

What is your favorite Quote?
“Shopping is my cardio!” said by Carrie Bradshaw in “Sex in the City.”

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
I saw the circus for the first time when I was four-years-old and I wanted to be a flying trapeze artist! (That must be why it made it into this book!)

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
My dad told me I had to have “alligator skin” in order to make it in the business world. Boy, was he right!

Hidden talent?
I can play the spoons!

Favorite Food?
Any kind of pizza!

Nickname?
Spike. When I first met my husband I played on a sand volleyball team and he’d come watch me play.

Who or what inspired you to become an author?
I’ve always been a writer, but when my 7-year-old asked me to write him a chapter book, I thought, “I can do that!” It had never occurred to me to trying children’s writing before then.

What is your guilty pleasure?
The marshmallows in Lucky Charms. I pick them all out of the box so nothing is left but the cereal part!

Spontaneity or Planning Ahead?
I’m a super-organized list maker! But I’m old-school with my Franklin planner. No PDAs here!

Beach or Pool?
Pool, as long as they serve pina coladas!

Tall Tales with Mr. K

The third-graders at Coyote Run Elementary thought the teacher’s lounge is where teachers eat candy out of vending machines, watch TV and get to play video games. They didn’t expect it to be a tropical island where they are kidnapped by pirates, a circus where they learn the flying trapeze, or a crime scene where they solve a jewelry heist.
Each chapter of this young middle-grade fantasy tells the story of a different student’s adventure in the teacher’s lounge accompanied by their mysterious new teacher, Mr. K. Only one student, Sam, decides to boldly go into the teacher’s lounge by himself where he discovers something completely different yet.
