Author Interview & Book Giveaway: Witch Song by Amber Argyle #BIR2011

Welcome back Author Amber Argyle!  I’m featuring her book Witch Song as part of Best I’ve Read 2011.  You can read my review of her book HERE.

Amber Argyle grew up with three brothers on a cattle ranch in the Rocky Mountains. She spent hours riding horses, roaming the mountains, and playing in her family’s creepy barn. This environment fueled her imagination for writing her debut novel.
She has worked as a short order cook, janitor, and staff member in a mental institution. All of which has given her great insight into the human condition and has made for some unique characters.
She received her bachelor’s degree in English and Physical Education from Utah State University.
She currently resides in Utah with her husband and three small children.

What is one book everyone should read?
I just finished Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver and I LOVED it. Anyone who’s ever had to climb a social ladder (that’s everyone, BTW) should read this book (you just have to get past not wanting to strangle the MC for the first 50 pages).

Pet Peeves?
Winter. I pretty much freeze for 5 months every year. Doesn’t matter that I’m wearing thermals, a sweater, and a blanket. I’m still freezing. I accept it, but I don’t have to like it. Also, I HATE anything to do with puke.
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Because I wrote it and I’m all sorts of awesome (and so it the book.) 😉

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I’m working on the sequel to Witch Song right now. I have something else going on, but I can’t talk about it yet.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Meeting squealing teenage girls.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Well, I can’t think of a theme song, but no one has ever asked me what my character’s voice sounds like (her singing controls her magic). So I’m going to pretend that’s what this question is about. She sounds like Haley Westenra. You can listen to her here:

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
Somewhere it was always warm but you don’t have to deal with scary spiders, snakes, scorpions, or hurricanes (Does that even exist?). Also, I like fall as a season. We can keep Fall. Just no Winter. Thank you very much.

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
My MC is bullied. So was I.

What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
I’ve watched the Hunger Games trailer a dozen times and I may very well go to the midnight showing.

How do you react to a bad review?
I start making a poppet.

What’s your favorite season/weather?
Fall. I love the crisp, spicy smell. Cooler days. The colors. It’s only one of the reasons I won’t leave the Rocky Mountains. The other is my family all lives here.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Oh, lots of things. I teach Sunday School at my church (I’m not sure what they were thinking when they asked or what I was thinking when I said yes). I’m silly as often as I’m serious. The only way I know how to sing is off key. I don’t understand why tootsie rolls exist (nasty little things).

Witch Song by Amber Argyle:

The world is changing. Once, Witch Song controlled everything from the winds to the shifting of the seasons–but not anymore. All the Witches are gone, taken captive by a traitor. All but Brusenna. As the echo of their songs fade, the traitor grows stronger. Now she is coming for Brusenna. Her guardian has sworn to protect her, but even he can’t stop the Dark Witch. Somehow, Brusenna has to succeed where every other Witch has failed. Find the traitor. Fight her. Defeat her. Because if Brusenna doesn’t, there won’t be anything left to save.
