Book Giveaway & Author Interview: Smokeless Fire by Samantha Young

Welcome to Author Samantha Young

Currently, she is the author of seven novels and one novella.

If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
I would invite Amanda Hocking, Veronica Roth, Karsten Knight, Richelle Mead and Suzanne Collins. If I could I’d invite way more of my favourite authors. I think these guys would be great dinner guests and are definitely people I admire and would be psyched to meet.

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
I would love to meet the author Angela Carter. She’s one of my favourite authors and I would have loved to have met the person behind such bizarre, gothic and fantastical worlds. She was truly unique and such a beautiful writer. I think she must have been an incredibly fascinating person.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
A fiesty heroine, scary genies, hot boys, comedy, and lots of action, make for a great adventure.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
The most rewarding experience for me has been the reaction from my readers. I have such fantastic and supportive readers and when they contact me to tell me how much they’ve enjoyed my books there is nothing else like it in the world. The most rewarding of these I think has to be a review I read from a woman who is volunteering in Africa at the moment. She downloaded all my books on her kindle and she said they’ve been such pure escapism for her while she is out there and that completely blew me away. I’m truly humbled by my readers. I think they’re awesome.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Nearly all of my books have soundtracks and theme songs because music really is a muse for my writing. The theme song for Smokeless Fire (every time I hear this song I think of Ari and her story) is Set Fire to the Rain by Adele. Such an epic song and it inspired a lot of dialogue and scenes between my characters.

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be?
I’d want to jump into the Vampire Academy world. I want to go St. Vladmirs and hang out with Rose and train to be a Dhampir. I just love the world Richelle Mead has created, it’s such an exciting and fun take on the vampire lore.

What’s your favorite season/weather?
I love Autumn. I’m a fan of Spring too. I just love the between seasons, when the sun shines in the morning but there is a crisp chill in the air. Life just feels so fresh and new. On days like that I always feel so energized and content.

Finish the sentence- one book I wish I had written is….
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Come on… who doesn’t wish they’d written that?? It’s awesomesauce with a cherry on top.

If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be?
Books! I’d be flying off to rescue an out of control train with a bomb on it heading for a nuclear power plant and I’d see a sale on at Waterstones (UK equivalent to Barnes & Noble) in the Urban Fantasy and Young Adult Section. Ooh the latest Morganville Vampires on sale! Train? What train?

Give us a glimpse into a typical day in your day starting when you wake up till you lie down again.
My alarm clock goes off in the morning (I have to have a soothing song to wake me up otherwise I’m crabby. At the moment I have Dido waking me) and I get up. I get washed and dressed and have some breakfast. I go for a long walk and listen to my music (and wait for inspiration to hit). Then, when I return home, I turn on the laptop. I spend the rest of the morning answering emails, scheduling blog posts, running book related errands, doing financial stuff etc. I break for lunch. After lunch I write. I break for dinner. Watch some television. Chat with some friends. Write some more. Answer emails. Go to bed at a ridiculously late hour and start all over again the next day. :-p

What is your favorite Quote?
