Author Interview & Book Giveaway: The Butcher’s Boy by Michael Robb Mathias

Welcome back to Author Michael Robb Mathias!  I started 2011 off with a giveaway for his book the Royal Dragoneers.  Today he’s back for a Halloween giveaway of his horror thriller that just won silver in the Reader Favorite Awards.

The jewel you see glowing in the ring in my authors photo isn’t really a jewel at all. It is the crystallized tear of a real dragon. In my novel “The Royal Dragoneers” you might find the moment where this wonderfully magical tear drop fell from a green dragons eye and hardened on its way down to land in a mess of troll corpses that the dragon was laying on.

My grandfather died before I was born, but the ring was given to me by my mother, after my grandmother recently died. My grandfather had apparently won the ring in a poker game near the Red River between Texas and Oklahoma sometime in the early 1900’s.

It has been a boon, the magic of the teardrop, for it brought you here to me didn’t it? Now treat yourself to something fantastic and try out the free sample of one of my novels. I hope you enjoy the journey. It will be spectacular.

(I also write Thriller/Horror under the pen name: Michael Robb).

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
I would want a harem, a solar powered fishing boat, and that crazy, spike-haired chef from the food channel. I bet he could make some great meals out of the seafood I catch in my fishing boat!

What’s the craziest writing idea you’ve had?
A novel about an angry writer that is prolific, but no matter how hard he tries, can’t get an agent or publisher to read his books. Every time he gets a rejection letter he kills the sender while speaking the narative of what he is doing into a recorder. After he gets killed in some fiery shootout someone actually reads his books and they find out he was actually as awesome as he claimed. (The Kindle boom may have saved some agents. ;-))

If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?
For obvious reasons I would want a signed copy of the Bible. Relax, that was funny.

In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with?
As you know, I also write epic and YA fantasy under the pen name M.R. Mathias there are two answers to this question. The thriller author, hands down, would want to collaberate with Clive Cussler. The fantasy author in me would choose George R. R. Martin.

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Food with MILK! I love me some MILK!

Which authors have influence you most how?
Well King said that all you have to do to be a novelist is write a novel, and Grisham said that if you didn’t write at least a page a day your story doesn’t unfold. BUT Raymond E. Feist, like me was untrained as a writer. He just sat down, put a pen to paper, and wrote ‘Magician.’ The fact that he could do that told me I could as well. So I did.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
Evil Knievel, no question about it!

What is your favorite Quote?
There are two:
– Fortune sides with him who dares – Virgil
– I dare – Michael Robb (M.R.) Mathias

The Butcher’s Boy

Thirty-one years ago, Buxly the Butcher went to trial for killing his entire family. He was found guilty, and sentenced to die for those crimes. Now, Janet Hale, a recently divorced nurse, has purchased the house unaware of the brutal murders that took place there so long ago.

From the moment she, her eleven-year-old son, and his overprotective Rottweiler move in, bad things start to happen. A strange man is caught lurking in the back yard, and the only neighbor turns out to be a crazy old widow. But not everything is going wrong. During the move, Janet meets a handsome charmer. She likes him enough to start dating again, leaving a sitter to watch over her son.

When Michael, and his dog, Lucy-Fur, learn firsthand that their home is haunted by one of the victims of the Butcher’s grisly act, Michael scours the internet and the local library to find out what happened back then. Maggie, the sitter, brings over a Ouija board and they soon find out that there is more than one dark spirit on the haunt.

Can Lucy-Fur protect her boy from the angry ghost that wants to possess him? Can Michael fight through the madness and terror to find out what really happened? If he does, maybe the tormented souls can be put to rest and his mom can keep the house that she seems to love. If he fails, he just might become one of them. With the help of Maggie, and a burned out house painter, Michael is going to try. The problem is, not everyone is who they seem…even the dead.
