Author Interview & Book Giveaway: Flame of Surrender by Rhiannon Paille

Welcome to Author Rhiannon Paille.

Rhi was never a normal girl. Her life was an urban fantasy wrapped in a paranormal romance and served with a side of horror. To escape her everyday weirdness she began writing fantasy. She studied at U of Sedona and MIMT, obtaining a PhD in Metaphysical Science and Parapsychology. She’s married to a chef/comic book shop owner and has a fondness for architecture. She frequents twitter and facebook, but if you really want to get to know her you should visit her site:

If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
*waves at readers* Sue Dawe, Erin Morgenstern, Natasha Heck, Criss Angel, and Alexander Sarsgard.
So to explain this. Natasha and I are crit partners. Sue is our world renowned artist friend from San Diego who happens to know Erin Morgenstern through the art world. Criss Angel is in my opinion a true illusionist. Alexander Sarsgard is eye candy and would be required to attend naked. The dinner would have to take place at midnight and in a secret location.

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I’d like to be able to read minds. If you know me, you’ll see the irony in this because I do read minds, quite often and I’m not very shy about it.

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
I normally delete questions like this because people expect the answer to be a famous person. Not me, if I could meet someone who died, it would be my childhood crush that I met on vacation when I was 13. He died a couple years after we met and we never had a chance to find each other again. Six hours is not enough time to spend with anyone and if I could, I’d love to spend another minute, hour, or day with him.

Night owl, or early bird?
Neither. I’m an afternoon/evening person.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
My favorite books are the ones that make me feel things I wouldn’t normally feel just by living my life and Flame of Surrender is one of them.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
There are 5.5 more books in The Ferryman and The Flame series. I’m currently working on the novella in the series.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Making the book trailers and realizing I have more friends than I thought I did. There’s way too much to this story to tell so if you want to know more, go here.

What is your dream cast for your book?
If this book were made into a movie, I’ve thought of Cloe Morentz making a good Kaliel. Dylan Minette would make a good Krishani.
I’m not picky on supporting characters but I could see Evanna Lynch as Shimma, you might remember her as Luna Lovegood.
James McAvoy would make a good Pux, but that’s because he played a Satyr in Chronicles of Narnia.
I wouldn’t mind finding something for Orlando Bloom to do.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Flame of Surrender themesong: Someone Like You by Adele
Lyrics: Sometimes it lasts in love and sometimes it hurts instead.

Flame of Justice themesong: Breathing by Wires by The Julianna Theory
Lyrics: This is your world, and you barely made it, did you think that it would cradle you until you were asleep forever? Did you, did you, did you, did you?

Flame of the Apocalypse themesong: Help is on the way by Rise Against
Lyrics: We were told just to sit tight because somebody would soon arrive. Help is on the way, but it never came.

What is your favorite Quote?
“All I have to give this world is me and that’s it and,
All I have to show this world is me and that’s it and,
All I have to face this world is me and that’s it,
just me, just me just me, and that’s it.” – Just me by Tegan and Sara

Hidden talent?
When I was 17 I was one of two girls chosen to sing a classical solo during the major concert at the Cantando Festival in Edmonton, AB. We both tried out during rehearsal, I choked halfway through the solo and the other girl won the opportunity. There was no prize, but there were plenty of scouts in the audience. Funny how I could have been performing in the opera today instead of writing books.

Favorite Candy?
I have too many favorites, swedish berries, starburst, mike and ike, dinosaurs. Good candy is never lost on me.

For the longest time people used to call me “Viking” and subsequently make jokes about my long ship and my horned hat. This all started because when I was eleven we were studying our heritage and I happen to have a very Norse background. So much so that one of my ancestors, Thorstein the Red used to be a Viking Warlord and King of Dublin Ireland. (Admittedly I AM a Viking and proud of it!)

How do you react to a bad review?
I’ve been receiving 5 star ratings for psychic readings since 2005. Anytime a client gives me a 1 star for a reading I always reach out to them in an attempt to fix the problem. I’ve had many 1 star ratings reversed after doing that.
I can’t exactly do that with a book, so I take it in stride knowing that the person wasn’t part of my target audience and I focus on the people who did like the book.

What’s your favorite season/weather?
Autumn is my time of year. I hate it when summer lingers too long and when winter comes early, but Autumn, I wish it stayed longer.

What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you’d be embarrassed to admit?
I watch Gossip Girl. I own the first four seasons on DVD. I’m a Blair and Chuck fan.

Finish the sentence- one book I wish I had written is….
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. But it wouldn’t be the same if I had written it.

Favorite music?
Adele, Paramore, Tegan and Sara, Ani DiFranco, Usher, The Juliana Theory, Rise Against, Kings of Leon, Shinedown, Carrie Underwood, and the list goes on and on. I listen to everything.

In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with?
Hands down, I’d love to work with Erin Morgenstern. I have no idea what we’d create but I know it would be brilliant.

Flame of Surrender: The Ferryman and the Flame Book One

The boy who follows death meets the girl who could cause the apocalypse.

Krishani thinks he’s doomed until he meets Kaliel, the one girl on the island of Avristar who isn’t afraid of him. She’s unlike the other girls, she swims with merfolk, talks to trees and blooms flowers with her touch. What he doesn’t know is that she’s a flame, one of nine individually hand crafted weapons, hidden in the body of a seemingly harmless girl.

Nobody has fallen in love with a flame until now. She becomes Krishani’s refuge from the dreams of death and the weather abilities he can’t control. Striking down thousand year old trees with lightning isn’t something he tries to do, it just happens. When the Ferryman dies, Krishani knows that he’s the next and that a lifetime of following death is his destiny.

And Kaliel can’t come with him. The Valtanyana are hunting the flames, the safest place for her is Avristar. Krishani can’t bear to leave her, and one innocent mistake grants the Valtanyana access to their mystical island. They’re coming for Kaliel, and they won’t stop until every last living creature on Avristar is dead. She has to choose, hide, face them, or awaken the flame and potentially destroy herself.
