Interview:
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Sam is a character than many people will relate to, and hopefully some will learn from.

Night owl, or early bird?
I do my best writing in the mornings. With three young children I have adapted to being an early bird from necessity. I used to be a night owl when I was a teenager.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
My second book, When Dreams Come True, is complete. It’s aimed at teenagers and I am currently seeking representation by a literary agent. My future plan is to continue to write novels for older children and teenagers. I hope to be able to publish at least one book a year from now on.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Being on BBC Radio Oxford was a massive highlight so far. They had me on as a guest for five minutes and I got to talk about New Beginnings and other writing projects.

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
I loved the Famous Five series by Enid Blyton. I always wanted to be George, as I was a bit of a tomboy and I liked the adventures they had.

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Read a lot, write a lot and never give up.

How did you know you should become an author?
I always said, right from school age, “One day I will write a book”. I got there in the end!

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
There are hints of me in several of my characters, but only hints. I find as my writing develops, there is less of this happening as I create characters from scratch.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
When I first decided, “That’s it, I’m going to write now,” I contacted bestselling author Freya North via Facebook and was incredibly grateful for the thoughtful and lengthy reply she sent to me. She told me to treat my writing as if it was a job, and this piece of advice has stuck in my mind. I try to be strict with myself during my writing time, and don’t even answer the telephone if I am writing.

What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
I am very much looking forward to Sisterwives by Rachel Connor which I have already pre-ordered.

How do you react to a bad review?

If a bad review has helpful suggestions in it I will try and take that as someone trying to help, and I do appreciate that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it would be a dull world if everyone liked the same things. If, however, it’s the kind of anonymous review that is clearly published by an internet troll, I will ignore it completely.

In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with?
Enid Blyton

New Beginnings:

Sam Hendry is not looking forward to starting at her new school. Things go from bad to worse as the day of truth arrives and all of her fears come true… and then some.

When Sam meets a different group of people who immediately accept her as a friend, she begins to feel more positive.

With her new friends and interests, will Sam finally feel able to face the bully who taunts her, and to summon up the courage to perform on stage?
