Book Giveaway & Author Interview: Footprints in the Sand by Rebekah Hatcher

Welcome to Author Rebekah Hatcher:

As far back as I can remember I have read every book I could get my hands on. I guess that it is only natural that I wanted to be a writer as well. I am sure that I drove my parents crazy, reading or writing using the light from my flashlight into the wee hours of the morning. It would be foolish to think that they didn’t know exactly what I was doing. As I am now a published author I can gladly say that their patience has paid off!
My husband, Don, has also been a large supporter of my writing, whether it be long periods of shutting myself away to work on an idea or writing the details to a dream that I had before I forgot it all in hopes that it would evolve into a novel. It took me nearly five years to complete my first book and he has been there throughout, always ready for me to bounce ideas off of!
Our children, Austin, Lauren, and even little Allison are always interested in my writing or in what stage of publishing I am in. I think they are just as excited about this as I am! They are each so precious to me and I thank God everyday for my family.
We love the small town life here in “Our Neck of the Woods”, Texas. My husband and I own an Air Conditioning company so when I am not writing I can usually be found there, answering phones, and filing paperwork. We also enjoy traveling, playing golf and going to the movies.

Interview:
1. If you could choose only one time period and place to live, when and where would you live and why?
This is actually a hard question because there are so many time periods I would have loved to live in. I would have to say I would have loved to be a wealthy (as long as we are dreaming, why not?) duchess or countess during 19th century England. I love all the floofy dresses and decorum and friviloty that they had back then. I would have loved to go to the theater or to a coming out ball or to the English countryside, or to take a holiday in Bath.

2. Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Footprints in the Sand takes you on an adventure across the globe with twists and turns that make it hard to put the book down.

3. How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
My husband bought my first book. My publisher called me and told me that they had it available through their web site and my husband was there when I was on the phone with them. He had it ordered within minutes. We were both so excited! It meant a lot to me that he was the first one to purchase a copy…. he even paid retail!!

4.What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Write down everything. The best stories are the ones that come from real life experiences. You never know when a dream you had last night could turn into a best-seller!

5. Favorite Candy?
I have two…. one that is nostalgic: My grandma lived in Chalmette, Louisianna and when I was a little girl I would go visit her and she would always have a package of Choward’s Violets waiting for me. Before I would leave to go home she would take me to the K&B Drug Store and buy me a whole box (24 packages) to bring home. To this day I still think about that when I smell violets. I recently ordered some online and I cried when I opened the box thinking about my grandmother, who passed eight years ago.
My second favorite is one that I get at the movies everytime we go… Sour Punch Straws. Doesn’t matter what flavor, I love them!!

6.What do you do in your free time?
What free time? Just Joking, my family loves to travel, we spend time with friends and our extended family. We all get together at our house most weekends which means that at any given time we will have about 25-30 people at our house. I love the chaos of it! We also fish and play golf and our favorite thing to do is go to the movies. My personal favorite thing to do is read. As many books as I can get my hands on!

7. If you could have a signed copy of any novel, which would it be and why?
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, not only is it one of my all time favorites, but a signed copy would be worth a fortune!

8. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
My daughter says that my superpower should be controlling everything….I’m sure she means that in the nicest way possible, but if I could choose I would say super speed…. just think how many novels I could write if I wrote 1000 words per minute!!

9. When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
A History Teacher. I LOVE History and everything about it. I would have wanted to be the “cool” teacher though, not the crabby ones that gave too much homework!

10.  What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
Anne of Green Gables. I love the book and the movies, I even went to Green Gables in Prince Edward Island when I was a little girl. I am sharing that series with my eight year old daughter right now and she loves it too!

11. If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be?
Waking up early. I hate to have to get up early. I am grumpy for at least an hour and I can’t eat breakfast early because it makes me sick to my stomach. This super hero could not fight crime before 7am!

12. Favorite places to travel?
Disney World is on the top five list. My husband and I went to Ireland two years ago and I would love to go back. It was amazing. We also like to go to Mexico. The place that I would like to go to most would be Italy, my mom went and said it was incredible. I would like to see where my mom’s family is from and eat LOTS of Italian food!!

13. Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I have several books that I’ve started but haven’t finished…one day I will. I also have a contract with my publisher to write the sequel to Footprints in the Sand. It will be called Eye of the Storm. I am about half way finished with it so I will keep you posted on when to expect it published.

14.  How did you know you should become an author?
I’ve always liked to write and jot down ideas. My husband really encouraged me to finish this book and get it turned in to a publisher. Between him and my other family and friends they were all the moral support I needed to become an Author.

15. What is one book everyone should read?
Huckleberry Finn By Mark Twain – It is an American Classic

Footprints in the Sand:

Callie Andrews is content with her life, until she gets a phone call telling her that her twin brother is in an Iraqi prison. When Mark Wilson contacts her and tells her that his father has also been taken captive, her organized life is suddenly turned upside down. As they uncover more information, they soon realize that the company their family members worked for is not what it appeared, and the kidnappings may not have been as random as they seemed. Callie and Mark’s own lives will soon be in danger as they race to rescue their loved ones. As Callie and Mark travel around the world, staying one step ahead of the men trying to keep them from discovering the truth, they find that they may have been brought into one another’s lives for an even larger purpose. Can Mark’s faith inspire Callie to turn back to God after spending so long running from Him? Can Callie’s beauty and love help Mark heal from the heartbreak of losing his fiancé and learn to open himself up once again? Their journey brings up questions of love and faith for each of them as they make Footprints in the Sand.
