Author Interview & Book Giveaway: How to Improve Your Life by Raymond Scudder

Welcome to Author Ray Scudder.

Bio:

Improvement of himself and others has been a driving force in the life and career of RAYMOND H. SCUDDER (Ray). Born and raised in a very poor neighborhood of South Central Los Angeles, he went on to enjoy a distinguished forty-five-year career as a human resources and quality improvement professional. A graduate of the University of Southern California with a BS Degree in Public Administration, he is a Six Sigma certified process improvement specialist. Six Sigma is a quality improvement methodology used in business that seeks to achieve near perfect quality levels of no more than three errors per one million transactions. Ray served as director of human resources for one of the largest medical centers in the state of Oregon and then as vice president of human resources and quality management for one of the largest medical centers in the state of Washington. Ray says he loved working in the medical field because the people in it are so dedicated to helping others. In 1994 he founded Human Resources Consulting & Training which provided consulting and employee training programs to over 30 hospitals in the Pacific Northwest and served as its president until retiring in 2006. He and his wife, Jan, live in Lake Stevens, Washington. They have three daughters, three granddaughters, and a newly arrived first grandson. HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR LIFE is his first book, and Ray says probably his last.

Interview:

1. What is the one book everyone should read?

America: The Last Best Hope Volumes I & II by William J. Bennett. Candidly, my high school and college history classes were pretty boring. This book taught me so much more about our history and gave me a real appreciation for what our forefathers endured and the things they did to make this such a great country.

2. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

I would choose having Ultimate Knowledge about everything – curing diseases, stopping and avoiding wars, other life in the universe, God and an afterlife, etc. etc.

3. Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.

The book contains a life-changing improvement process you can easily follow to take control of your life and achieve whatever you want to achieve.

4. What inspired you to become a writer?

I never did aspire to become a writer and this will probably be my first and last book. I have spent my life trying to improve myself and help others improve. I wanted to leave something behind that would help people and especially my grandchildren get what they want out of life. A book seemed like a good way to do it.

5. What is your favorite quote?

There are a dozen great quotes in my book but the one I like the most is How wonderful is it that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world? – Anne Frank

6. What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?

My dear departed grandmother always used to say to me “Can’t never did anything”.

7. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was six years old I was on the Art Linkletter radio show and he asked me the same question. I told him I wanted to be a post office clerk like my dad because he made lots of money. I didn’t understand why the audience laughed at me but I didn’t care because Mr. Linkletter gave me a model airplane.

8. Nickname?

My nickname when I was growing up was “Butch” but back then it meant tough guy. It has a little different connotation today so I don’t use it anymore.

9. In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with?

Without a doubt it would be Stephen Hawking author of A Brief History of Time. Although his books are not easy reading, this man is the most genius intellect in the world today. It would be an honor to bring him coffee and just sit with and take notes for him.

10. What’s your favorite weather?

I live about 30 miles north of Seattle, Washington and my favorite weather is any day when it doesn’t rain!
