Top Ten Vacation Memories

  • When I was a kid we used to travel everywhere—by car. Here are the top ten vacation memories from my childhood:
  • My grandparent’s maroon station wagon that could travel any distance without ever seeming to have to stop for gas. Or stop at all. We slept in the back.
  • The time I wet my pants at Disneyworld on Space Mountain (very funny in hindsight).
  • Making sand candles at summer camp. Wish I still had them!
  • Getting punched in the face by a boy while we were camping. I might have wiped a broken glow stick on his back, but he didn’t need to resort to physical violence. It’s a favorite because it is the only time I’ve ever been punched in the face.
  • Wiping out on the road at camp, but being less worried about the cuts and bruises and more concerned over the fact that I ruined my nailpolish.
  • Spending a day at Epcott center with just my gram and mom tasting the foods from each region.
  • Catching fish with my grandfather at 4am on the cold as heck Lake Champlain
  • Cotton Candy for every fireworks show.
  • Spending a spring break at home, but sneaking out to go to the Art Museum by myself.
  • Wetting my pants on the way back from Disneyworld in the station wagon. (I told you they never stopped!!!)

A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young:

We all want to be remembered. Charlotte’s destiny is to be Forgotten…

Charlotte’s best friend thinks Charlotte might be psychic. Her boyfriend thinks she’s cheating on him. But Charlotte knows what’s really wrong: She is one of the Forgotten, a kind of angel on earth, who feels the Need—a powerful, uncontrollable draw to help someone, usually a stranger.

But Charlotte never wanted this responsibility. What she wants is to help her best friend, whose life is spiraling out of control. She wants to lie in her boyfriend’s arms forever. But as the Need grows stronger, it begins to take a dangerous toll on Charlotte. And who she was, is, and will become–her mark on this earth, her very existence–is in jeopardy of disappearing completely.

Charlotte will be forced to choose: Should she embrace her fate as a Forgotten, a fate that promises to rip her from the lives of those she loves forever? Or is she willing to fight against her destiny–no matter how dark the consequences.
