Author Interview & Book Giveaway: Laney by Joann Martin Sowles

Welcome to Author Joann Martin Sowles.

Author Bio:

Joann Martin Sowles’ love of fantasy and science fiction inspired her to create the Brookehaven Vampires and their world. She lives in Northern California with her very supportive husband and their two wonderful children, along with what she likes to call her furry entourage – two cats and a separation-anxiety having Aussie. Between being a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom and wife, she spends her spare time, what little there is of it, hard at work on the next Brookehaven installment. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
My all-time favorite ice cream is Pink Peppermint that you can usually only get around Christmas time. During the rest of the year I “settle” for Daiquiri Ice and Pink Bubble Gum.

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
I would love to meet Walt Disney.

Night owl, or early bird?
I’m a total night owl. Mornings and I do not get along so well.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Oh yes! I am currently finishing up the second book in The Brookehaven Vampires series, Darkness. Darkness continues where Laney left off. Once it’s finished I will begin working on book three. There will be several books to tell Laney’s story but I do not have a set amount of how many there will be. Once I have completed her story, I plan to write about several other of my characters and tell their stories. I have also recently started writing a series of short stories about fallen angels.

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
Laney did. She started developing in my mind and the more I read the stronger she got. Eventually I felt that if I didn’t get her out of my head and onto paper she would consume me. Does that sound crazy? 🙂

What is your favorite Quote?
“I would rather regret the things I have done than the things I have not.” – Lucille Ball

Who are your favorite authors of all time?
Christopher Paolini, J.K. Rowling, Rachel Caine & Charlaine Harris.

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
I can. I’ve been working on a story about one of my characters that has yet to be introduced and I find a lot of similarities in us. Her name is Nikki and just to name a couple things, she definitely has my sarcasm and a lot of my inner monologue.

Favorite Candy?
Right now I am in love with Almond Joys! My dad always ate them when I was a kid (he still does) and the thought of them was so nasty to me. Well, this past Halloween the kids had a ton of them in their trick-or-treating bags so I figured I’d give one a try. Well…I fell in love with them, called my dad and told him all about it and now my pants are a wee bit tighter for it.

What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris, Inheritance by Christopher Paolini and the final Harry Potter movie. I can’t wait!

What was your favorite children’s book?
I loved the Serendipity book Flutterby. I loved the pictures. I still have it. It’s up on my shelf next to the Twilight Saga and Harry Potter.

If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?
I would LOVE an original release autographed copy of Eragon by Christopher Paolini.

What do you do in your free time?
In what little free time I have I try to read as much as possible.

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
Look what crazy dragged in. LOL!

What’s your favorite season/weather?
Anything but winter. I am not a fan of the cold at all.

Favorite places to travel?
The beach, preferably one warm and sunny, and Disneyland.

In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with?
Very tough question…If I had to narrow it down to just one I would choose Rachel Caine. I think writing with her would be a lot of fun. I love her writing and her wit.

What would you give to be with the one you love? Would you give it all, including your life?
In a small college town in Northern California, Laney Alexander led a regular, uneventful life. That is, until the charming and alluring Oliver Knight entered her world. Who was this gorgeous and mysterious stranger? Or rather, what was he? As Laney’s sophomore year of college begins, so does an unbelievable adventure – including a love she didn’t know she longed for. She soon learns that Oliver is not ordinary, nor is the rest of his family, revealing a sister who openly hates her and a brother who will stop at nothing for revenge. As she fights for her life and Oliver’s love she discovers that the fictional world of vampires isn’t so fictional after all. Nobody is safe; especially Laney, Oliver’s most important priority and he will stop at nothing to protect her. With her mortality at risk and a commitment revealed that she, with no doubts, knows she wants, Laney’s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn…
…his hands against my back pressed me against him. This kiss was different, desperate almost. His lips left mine and gently, very lightly traveled across my cheek and down to my neck, hovering there. His cool breath sent chills through me, awakening feelings I didn’t know existed. His lips softly kissed my neck, and then I felt two sharp pricks. I gasped….
