Book Giveaway & Author Interview: A Love Rekindled by Myne Whitman

Welcome to Author Myne Whitman.

Bio:

Myne Whitman is my pen name. I was born and raised in Enugu, Nigeria, where I spent most of my time, studying, reading and daydreaming or climbing trees and playing with the boys. I have a Master’s degree in Public Health Research but have chosen my childhood dream of spinning stories. After a few years in Edinburgh, Scotland, I now live with my husband in Seattle, USA. I write and blog full-time, and also volunteer as an ESL tutor for a local charity. I critique with the Seattle Eastside Writers Meet-up and I’m also a member of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association.

The Pacific Northwest of America is a great place to live in the summer but during the drizzling winter rains, I find myself dreaming of long, hot, Nigerian days and the red palm oil of Banga Soup. A self-confessed adrenaline junkie, I love theme park rides and my wildest ride yet would be the Simpsons at Universal studios, Hollywood. Or maybe it was that reverse bungee jump I did in Scotland, hmm…lol.

In addition to writing popular fiction to get people reading, I am passionate about using the internet and social media to promote the book industry and literacy levels in Nigeria. To this end, I facilitated a session, “Social Media and the Book Publishing Industry”, for the Publisher’s Forum at the 2010 Garden City Literary Festival, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. I’m also the founder and managing editor of NaijaStories.com, a critique and social networking site for Nigerian writers and lovers of literature.

Interview:

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Love stories cut across lines, and adult mainstream and romance readers will want to see how Efe and Kevwe overcome parental interference to rekindle love.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
There’s no release date yet, but I’m working on another romantic fiction. Bolade is a single thirty-something and her mother is in a matchmaking mood.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Apart from the commercial success, there’s also a deep satisfaction that comes from knowing your creative work is out there, making and contributing to conversation.

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
The Famous Five series by Enid Blython

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Efe, my main character loved music and usually had a playlist at various stages of the book. Her favorite was a collection of the best from female R&B vocalists.

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
They should keep writing and never give up, and if possible start a blog, or join a community or writers. A lot of aspiring writers are very talented and it’s only a matter of time before they’re discovered and published.

If you could be one of the Greek Gods, which would it be and why?
Aphrodite. I think she’s awesome, and she’s the goddess of love.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
One of the Caribbean islands, and close the beach.

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
I can see myself in one of the minor characters, Nneka is the best friend of the main character, and can’t wait for Efe to find love too.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
They told me that if I worked hard at my dreams, they would surely come true, and sooner than I imagined.

A Love Rekindled:

Efe returns to Nigeria after years in the United States, dreaming of a happy, independent life. However, her nights become plagued by nightmares of Kevwe Mukoro, her ex-fiancé. Long hours at work and drinking in nightclubs only provide temporary relief, and when she encounters Kevwe’s twin brother, she knows it’s a matter of time before Kevwe is back in her life. Sparks fly when they finally meet again, but desire is no match for bitter memories of heartbreak. All these years, Efe believed she was rejected; now Kevwe claims he’d never stopped loving her. Stuck at a crossroads, Kevwe prefers to look to the future, but Efe is not so sure. Can the traumatic events of the past be resolved, and will she give in to rekindled love?
