Book Giveaway & Author Interview: Future Glimpse by Melanie Nelson

Welcome to Author Melanie Nelson!
Bio:

Melanie lives in Nampa, Idaho. She has a genius four year old boy, and the cutest baby girl alive. Melanie was homeschooled with her five siblings, and later went on to study at Brigham Young University Idaho. Although her declared major was psychology, she only took one psych class. Instead she took as many English and Literature courses as she could justify. She doesn’t love writing as much as having written something.

Interview:

Night owl, or early bird?
I’m the night owl who wishes it were an early bird.

Pet Peeves?
I hate driving behind someone who doesn’t go the speed limit. Another is the confusion between a Democracy and a Republic. The United States is a Republic, but is most often referred to as a Democracy, and it drives me nuts!

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I’m currently about half way through a fantasy novel for kids. I’m excited about it, and think readers will really like it.

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be?
There are so many answers to this one, but I think the world of Harry Potter has it topped. Post Voldemort, that is. Come on, who wouldn’t want to have a magic wand, ride a broomstick, and eat magical candy?

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
One of my childhood favorites is Bridge to Terabithia, by Katherine Paterson. I still love it.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
Right where I am. Rather, where ever my family is. Ideally, it would be a country setting, with trees, mountains, water, and lots of family.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
Every time I was asked the question, I would answer that I wanted to be a mommy. Sure, I had grand aspirations to be an actress, or maybe a grocery store clerk, but first and foremost, I wanted to be a mother. That hasn’t changed; except the part about the grocery store clerk.

Who are your favorite authors of all time?
I have lots. Katherine Paterson, Jane Austen, Chris Heimerdinger, Orson Scott Card, the Bronte sisters, Harper Lee, just to name a few.

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
My main character, Karen, probably inherited a lot of my characteristics and view points.

Hidden talent?
Foosball. I’ve never played anyone that I can’t beat.

What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
I really look forward to seeing the last installment of Harry Potter. I’m a big fan of the books, and the movies are fun too.

What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you’d be embarrassed to admit?
I am a closet Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. Secret’s out.

Finish the sentence- one book I wish I had written is….
Jacob Have I Loved. It’s also by Katherine Paterson. She has an extraordinary talent of bringing out your emotions, and making her characters relate-able. I’ve never been a lesser-loved twin, but I feel like I know what it’s like, because of the book. Amazing.

It doesn’t take Karen long to realize that the truth is much more disconcerting; she shifts through time. While she was five years into her future, an older Karen had taken her place as a seventeen year old. Although the shifts were never predictable, a frightening change occurs when they become new and unknown to even the future Karen. Not only is time behaving erratically, the lives of Karen’s future family are in mortal danger and only she can prevent a tragic outcome.
