Book Giveaway & Author Interview: Akasha by Heather Tregaskes

Welcome to Author Heather Tregaskes

Heather grew up in southwest New Mexico where she developed a love for reading books about anything outside our reality. She is currently a stay-at-home mom in Southern Arizona and enjoys reading, playing guitar and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

If you were a superhero what would your name be?
Sense. That’s what my husband calls me because I have the nose of a bloodhound.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Rocky Road. I even wrote a song about it once.

Pet Peeves?
People who don’t take turns at four way stops. Come on people, we learned this stuff in Kindergarten!

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world which would it be?
The Mortal Instruments world. But only if I also gained courage and superhuman strength.

What was your favorite book when you were a child?
I loved The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I read it several times.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
I listened to Stolen by Dashboard Confessional about a million times while writing Akasha. I have a whole montage in my head I wish others could see.

Who are your favorite authors of all time?
Classic-Margaret Mitchell. I mean if you’re only going to write one novel in your life, make it a classic right? Now, J. K. Rowling and Cassandra Clare. And I should pay dues to Lois Duncan. I haven’t read anything from her in a long while, but she was the reason I started writing.

What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
I can’t wait for the Clockwork Prince. I thought I loved the Mortal Instrument books until I read Clockwork Angel. Now I know what true love is!

What is your guilty pleasure?
High school chick flicks. I love them!

Favorite music?
My favorite group is Dashboard Confessional. Mostly their earlier stuff because it has a lot of acoustic guitar.

Akasha by Heather Tregaskes
In 1880, superstitions in Nichole’s small New England town are more like excerpts from the bible than cautionary tales. So, when a band of gypsies set up camp outside town the same day Nichole’s mother dies, the town’s people blame the death on a gypsy curse.

At seventeen, Nichole is left an orphan and feared by friends. Not even the man she was betrothed to will speak for her. When one of the gypsies comes to claim her, the town hands her over with no remorse. It is only through the connection she feels for the man put in charge of helping her that she is able to accept her new life. Her trust in him turns to love, and the wounds of loss begin to heal.
Until she discovers their secret…
