Book Giveaway & Author Interview: How Lamar’s Bad Prank Won A Bubba-Sized Trophy by Crystal Allen

Welcome to Author Crystal Allen.

I was born in a military hospital in Germany because my dad was in the Army. I’m the youngest of five children.

I spent lots of my young years in New Albany, Indiana where I was corn-shucking and multiplication queen of my third grade class.

I’m ambidextrous, which means I can write with both hands.

I wore a wig to school my entire fifth grade year because I hated my hair.

I had two dates to an eighth grade sweetheart dance in which I was a candidate for Sweetheart Queen. (whoops!) I apologized to both guys because one had asked me very, very early and I’d forgotten. It was awkward for awhile, but then all three of us shrugged, got on the dance floor and shook what our mommas gave us! Ended up being one of the best dances ever!

In high school, I taught everyone in our choir to do the robot and we performed it in a concert.

Like Lamar, I had asthma. I grew out of it, though, when I was 16.

I’m married, have two sons and we live in Texas. My husband’s parents and siblings are from Tennessee and when they come to visit, we have a Texas/Tennessee bowling war where we all talk trash and try to bowl like Lamar.

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Definitely back to the past.

If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
Jesus, Martin Luther King, the first male and female in my bloodline, Dr. Seuss

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
Fruit trees, a lighter, and a book on “How to effectively communicate with smoke signals.”

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Cookies and Cream

Night owl, or early bird?
Early bird

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
My book will make you laugh, then cry, then laugh again!

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I’m working on my second novel and hope to continue writing for as long as I can!

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
My sons inspired me.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
During my first author’s visit, two fourth-grade girls told me they wanted to be authors just like me.

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Never listen to the voice of doubt. That voice is a liar. You can do it!

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
Sugar Land, Texas. I love it here!

When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
I just wanted to be “grown.” When I was little, it seemed as if I was never old enough to do the things I wanted to do. Then adults would always say, “Just wait until you’re grown.”

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Plan your work, then work your plan.

Favorite Food?
I’ve got a black belt in Mexican food. Can’t get enough of it.

You have won one million dollars what is the first thing that you would buy?
A really good basketball goal and an asphalt-paved court, along with playground equipment for the children at the Women’s Abuse Center a few miles from my home.

What do you do in your free time?
Hang out with my family. Read.

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
Riding On The Most Wicked Roller Coaster Ever!

What’s your favorite season/weather?

Who or what inspired you to become an author?
My two sons inspired me.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
I don’t know when the first one sold. But the first person I actually saw order my book on Amazon forced me to order a grande caramel macchiato at Starbucks!

What is your guilty pleasure?
Almond Joys
